I think I’m perimenopausal I have type 2 diabetes it’s been suggested I should ask at my annual review about starting HRT - it’s my first annual review as only diagnosed last Oct so not sure if it’s something to ask then or to make another appointment,
I’ve changed GP surgery as I wasn’t happy with the support I was getting at the previous one,
My HBA1c has gone
Oct 25 - first blood test -85 confirmation blood test 79 and started on metformin
Jan 26 - 53
August 26 - 49
Currently taking 1g metformin once a day as couldn’t tolerate 2g total

Does anyone take HRT along side metformin? Does it help ?

As a (just) post-menopausal woman who's only been on HRT for 3 months, fight for it now, it may not make any difference to your type 2, but the difference in my overall health (both physical and mental) is remarkable. If they try to say you need blood tests, refer the practitioner to the current NICE guidelines which say diagnosis should be on symptoms. If you want it, lay it on with a spoon, don't do the usual thing of downplaying. And may the odds be ever in your favour

Thanks for the reply, I put in a request for an appointment and been offered a group appointment on 1st December- I really don’t like the thought of discussing things like that in from of strangers for the first time, but they can’t give an appointment before then either so on a waiting list for a routine appointment
I think if the symptoms are as bad this month I’ll just have to try again, and push when I have my diabetic review on 9th November

Not on metformin (im a T2 diet controlled), but have recently requested to go on HRT due to perimenopausal symptoms. I have been on it for a month and definitely helping with some symptoms although told it will take at least 3 months for all things to settle down.

As far as I understand, taking HRT whilst on metformin isn't an issue.

With regards to T2 Diabetes and HRT , the only warning I was given was that estrogen tablets are not suitable for T2 diabetics as they have an increased risk of blood clots and stroke, but gels, patches and sprays do not have the same risk, so you should be offered one of those, which I understand the transdermal applications are better anyway.

When I asked for HRT, I had a GP appointment separate to my diabetes review (which, for me, is normally with a nurse) - I asked for one to discuss womens health and I would recommend doing that as it gives you more time to discuss each subject, rather than the clinican rushing to discuss two separate issues. It also meant I was given an appointment with a GP who had extra training in womens health, and I had no issues getting the HRT prescribed straight away based on my symptoms.

Thanks for all the info,
I’ve heard that it should be patches, gel or spray rather than tablets for the estrogen part of it,
I’ve been given a phone appointment on 7th December with a female GP, to discuss it,
My plan is to mention it at my Diabetic review- no idea who that’s with, so it’s on my notes
Roughly how long should my diabetic review be?
