People have talked a lot about phantom hypos on here before (y'know, when you feel hypo but bg is for example, 6.5). I've had one of these this morning, a another a few days ago. After not having any hypo awareness for a while, some of which has now returned, I'm glad I tested before treating as I was not hypo at all.

Tell me, when you feel so hypo you are shaking, confused, lack of energy etc, but your bg shows you are not hypo, what do you do? Ignore it, eat something anyway to alleviate some of the feelings? I'm never quite sure what to do.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had quite a few whilst going through anti-Cancer treatment recently. My levels were all over the place and I had continually high levels followed by sudden drops like a stone. At one point I was getting 'hypo' symptoms even when my Bg was in the 8's and 9's !! They are NOT real hypo's.

I just ignored it as if you feed it, you will just elevate your Bg levels and do more harm than good. It is one of those things that you will eventually find goes away when your body's glucose mechanism settles down to the newer, more normal levels. So basically, grin and bear it......drink plenty of water too, that seemed to help me.

I see that you had lost your hypo awareness, has your consultant advised you raise your bg targets to see if this will kick start your hypo awearness...

You need to speak with your DN, as it might be advisable if you've raised your target BG's to kick start hypo awareness, then to maintain these targets for a little longer, so the hypo warning really gets established, and then with your DN/Consultants guidence, lower your targets over a period of time to maintain the hypo warnings..

As to revert too quickly may mean that you lose your hypo awareness again, if at these levels, try treating the hypo, but use a very small ,amount of fast acting carbs say if you usually use 15g then use 5gs instead, this will help to fool the body that the hypo has been treated, but avoid putting your BG up to far.. This will help to maintain your hypo awareness, as you start to lower you target range for control, this will help to reline hypo warnings to were they should be, around the <4.5 mmol/m mark

I've just seen this your other post viewtopic.php?f=15&t=15292

When treating the phantom hypo, treat very sparingly..
