Patronising people, fish and cold callers
Hi everyone, i've got a bit of a tale to tell. Basically, my auntie had a stroke last month and is now in Falkirk hospital. At the weekend she was told she had some cancerous growths in her womb and they had started bleeding. My cousins want her to be transferred to a hospital nearer home (Falkirk is a 40 min drive away and my cousins have young children - not ideal especially with the weather they've been having) but they've been told that if she is transferred to another hospital she won't be able to have physiotherapy :evil: . Now my cousins are scandalised about this, because she's paralysed down one side and can't talk. Does anyone know any exercises they can do with her or even a good website that I can send them a link to? Any help would be appreciated at this point. Thanks,

Our local hospital only has 19 beds and they have a physio! It may be worth going and checking out this hospital to see.
 
Speaking from experience,Bubsy,it would be better if she could go to a dedicated stroke unit for a time.they are fantastic there and do intensive therapy that pays huge dividends in terms of gaining mobility and independence.I realise this may mean even further away but ,to the person with the stroke ,it is worth it in the long run.
 
Thanks a lot everyone, there's some good suggestions there. I'll send these links to my cousins and hopefully they can check the local hospitals physically and I can check them out online (bit difficult to get up there when we live in Coventry and no-one this end drives!) Anyway, i'm taking the teenager to London Xmas shopping today so we've got a train to catch! Thanks again,

Hi everyone, glad to say I survived the xmas dinner! the turkey was a bit tough and the bacon was cremated but at least we didn't get food poisoning! Mum's in a much better mood as well, my auntie rang her from hospital and was able to speak a few words! Strange thing was, she seems to have lost her scottish accent! :? Mum didn't even recognise her! Suffice it to say, we're all a bit more hopeful now.

I had a stroke nearly 6 years ago and it is a Sports therapist who volunteers for helping with stroke patients, wo has done the most for me. the Stroke Association know where such volunteers are. As has been said, contact them.
 
Thanks Hana, I've been on the site and it's looking quite promising. I haven't heard anything from my cousins but i'm going to send them an email with all the links in as soon as I come off here. Thanks again for thinking of us,
