Thanks for that Catherine. You didn't count them by any chance did you?

Since we're on the subject of birds I loved these little ones:

The RSPB has a website which has webcams on various nests .My favorite is ospreys at Loch Garten in Scotland, you can watch live as the chicks are fed it is fascinating but you dont get much work done

That photo stirs memories.
Almost 20 years ago, I spent a week with my OH on Weddell Island, part of the Falklands. Weddell had a population of about 5 adults, 3 children, thousands of sheep and penguins and a few Patagonian foxes (which we have a photo of somewhere). We walked amongst the penguins, they just waddled a little away from us and when we'd passed went back again.
It was a single week in the middle of a rather lonely year and I was very lucky to be able to go, so some very vivid memories. Now I've got to dig out the photos.

Wonderful :)
That's a picture of how I feel today.....
Thanks Catherine I shall keep that one :)

Bad hair day today....

Ever since I have been buying niger seeds I have had such lovely, colouful birds eating from my bird feeders. Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Bullfinches as well as the usual less colourful bird. This evening when I went up the garden to close up the shed there was a thrush panicking in the window. The first one I have seen this year!

Mary

I used to work at a mail order bird food supplier (JJ-not their full name just a clue) and it's nice to hear someone has persevered with the niger seed! At home we haven't seen as many goldfinches as usual yet, but we get a jay that visits. I'll have to get a pic of it-although the albino squirrel I think takes some beating.
