Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
One of my main symptoms (amongst others) is puns and needles in hands and feet and now it's driving me bonkers.

It's up the side of my left hand, fingers and physical hand... The doctor says it should go, so in others experience of starting Metformin how long before is subsided. So worried I may have done permanent damage.

Thank you in advance x

hopefully they should go but if you are worried or is getting worse, then visit your gp

I've had the same problem. Been 6 weeks now. Getting to the point where I am going to come of metformin due to the side effects. Constipation, pins and needles and always bloody cold. Doctor didn't seem concerned when I mentioned these things. She did say I could take something for the constipation, But that would be a viscous circle.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I remember reading posts by a member here called @carraway who had tingling symptoms that disappeared when she gained better control of her diabetes by eating low carb. That's all I know, but hopefully it means it can be a temporary thing. Good luck.

After diagnosis I woke up with dead hands most nights. I was convinced it was the Metformin. One of the GPs at my surgery prescribed some kind of cream, I forget the name, and told me I may get heartburn whilst using it. Because the numbness seemed to begin in little fingers and worked across (I also got it at other times of day if sat or leant on something) he ruled out carpul tunnel syndrome. He also said if the cream didn't work I'd have to go for induction tests. Well, I didn't want heartburn and I didn't agree with his course of action. I was convinced it was the metformin. I ended up reducing the metformin until I wasn't taking any (not because of the dead hands). I rarely wake with dead hands now. It still happens from time to time and also at other times I can feel the sensation coming but I'm much better now.
I have to say that if I had to go back on medication I would still use metformin. I didn't get any tummy upsets that some have had. I owe a lot to metformin.

Having said all of that, I still get symptoms of tingling in my feet. I get it when I've done some walking. Does it make sense to anyone if I say my bg doesn't have to be high for it to happen? In cooler seasons 15 minutes driving will result in my feet becoming like blocks of ice and they tingle when thawing. I'm sat here on my mobile and I can feel slight vibes in my hands. I'm sure it's because my arms are bent.
It's a funny old thing this diabetes...

I have it too for the longest time, it comes and goes but I just ignore it. I don't know if that's the best coping skill :(

Yes, @Avocado Sevenfold is right. It was me.
I had them for ages, didn't really know what they were thought it was some sort if RSI (too much time on the laptop!). I had not accepted diabetes at that time (still haven't!)

It went within a few weeks, when did a low carb diet. I let things go and they came back. Got better and they went away again.
You are what you eat.

How long have you been diabetic Cara?
It only been diagnosed 1 week and 4 days having mixed emotions some days yeap its a lifelong mabageable thing. Others I end up a wreck.

I love to bake and can't bring myself to yet.. I love carbs too pasta yum.. non carbs not a lover of white meat and love red meat.. need to get more into the white meat..

I am a vegetarian and I love carbs. But I adore cauliflower rice and courgette spaghetti and would choose them over the real thing.

Diabetic about 6 years. Only admitted it when the pins and needles were spreading.

I was (am) overweight but was fairly fit. I lost weight and upped the exercise but some days I am good and other days I go back into denial mood.

Do you need to lose weight? Are you interested in cutting back on carbs?

Prob half a stone overweight, have low choleterol and blood pressure...

Cauliflower rice I love it. Courgette spaghetti - how do you do that?
And carbs think I may cut back and see if it helps, do you have them with every meal just smaller portions?

About 8 years ago i was overweight and lost 4 stone and remaind fairly static weight wise, I was before these tablets eating for england and not feeling full, but go crossfit class 3 times a week to...

my main concern is how to fix my body at the moment (can not think of a better way to put it)
