Pins and Needles...

Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hey,

Wondered if someone could help figure this out. I'm a type 2 diabetic, and my blood sugars are now very stable (on metformin and diplagifloxin). Even after I've eaten (90 mins - 2 hours) my blood sugars are around 6/7.

However - yesterday i seem to have some annoying tingling sensation in my hand and feet. It's intermittent and doesn't hurt or itch or anything. It's just a tingling sensation - not even pins and needles really. I'm worried that this is the start of neuropathy though, after what I've read online. Anyone got any thoughts or tips of how to reduce the sensation?

I still get it even after I've had a operation on a frozen shoulder for the same thing as that and I am still getting it and I have been told that I have damaged nerves in my body to have the feelings so you can go and get it checked out by your doctor but I have worked around it and give it a couple of minutes to go away until the next time it comes on so I would ask you doctor about it as it's probably just the nerves in your body

I'm been type 1 for 21 years and also get this from time to time, I don't know what it is but I went for neuropathy testing and it all came back negative.
Hope this is the same for you.

That's useful - thanks guys.
It's very intermittent!
Dr. appointment tomorrow to just check all is ok.
No pain or anything, just a slight annoying sensation!

I had some tingling in my hands, so I started to take Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements. The tingling may be caused by Metformin which can cause vitamin B12 deficiency. I cut down and then stopped taking Metformin as it has only a very small effect on lowering blood sugars and I had managed to lower my blood sugars to near non-diabetic levels through a low carb diet.

Metformin can also result in memory loss.

Do you have a reference for your source of Metformin causing memory loss?

I found that metformin resulted in both pins and needles in my hands and memory loss and that that is why I stopped taking it. ALA helps both of these symptoms. If you google metformin memory loss you will find quite a few references linking metformin with memory loss.

I took Metformin and Atorvastatin for about 5 weeks after diagnosis.
I have lost so many memories, but my ability to learn seems to be coming back after about 6 months. I am a singer and used to sing and play from memory, but luckily I had begun to write down my songs - for posterity - so I have not lost them completely.
I stopped taking the tablets after having so many unpleasant side effects, the final straw was when I lost the car in the supermarket car park just before Christmas last year. I eventually found it and opened the back, only to find it full of shopping I did a couple of days earlier. That is what made me decide to stop - a life which is no life at all is not for me.

Try to go even lower in the number of carbs you eat in a day to help your body not to get adding diseases or conditions What is your HbA1c by the way ? Just to see if there is reason to get it futher down
