pins and needles

Hi all,
i have recently been getting rando, pins and needles in my left foot.. always my small toe, and the one next to it sometimes. i dont know if this could be diabetes related or not..
im type 2, on no meds. any ideas?!!
Kaz :-)

Could be. Diabetic neuropathy is a thing that causes damage to the nerves, normally in the extremities like the toes. Do you test? If so, do you have regular high blood sugar readings? That is normally the first thing to look at in dealing with this. Could of course be other things; like a trapped nerve? If it continues, take a trip to the docs.

Hi there,

I get pins and needles in my feet when I am standing still for a while, e.g. when I am ironing or doing the washing up. I had my "foot check" about 3 weeks ago and I asked about it, she said that it wasn't anything to do with my diabetes (I'm type 2 on insulin). She said that it could be to do with circulation or trapped nerve.

Don't know if this will help you or not.

Chris

thank you both for replying!
i guess i have had a few high ish tests lately.. around the 10 mark and upwards a few hours after my dinner.. not sure if thats normal or not??!!
it seems to happen when im sat down most often i think.. but just odd its always the same toe! and it can be fine for a week or so.. so not sure about it being a trapped nerve..
ill maybe ring the nurse up next week if it happens again!!

thank you for your help! :-)

Bit on the high side Kazlincs. I see you're on diet only like me - what sort of diet are you on? You might have to tweak it a bit to get it down. If you let us know what you're eating now, you'll get loads of helpful suggestions.

im not on a diet lol just eat random things.. lol im eating more healthily as time goes on though.. ive started eating more veg and fruit. its more to do with the fact i have a few biscuits after dinner i think! i know i should cut them out.. !! i do excercise about 3 times a week too. i am actually starting to lose weight too, which means that my diet has improved.. but far from perfect at the moment!! im getting there though!! :-)

Yeah, the biscuits will do it! The fruit also has a fair amount of carbohydrates as well, in it's fructose. Some fruit is good, but not too much. Also, bananas are about the worst it seems, I avoid them - always get a high spike with them. The best fruits are the berries, low GI so no big highs. You perhaps need to look more closely at the carbohydrates you eat, both the quantity and the type. Most of us on diet only avoid the starchy carbs, like white flour products (white bread, pastry etc), only eat a little pasta (wholemeal) and rice (basmati) and avoid boiled or jacket "old" potatos; new potatos are much better. Obviously, sweets and sugary stuff is out. Some of course dion't bother, and are happy to go on medication to control their blood sugars. Each to their own! But if you want to stay on the "diet only" route, you will need to make changes probably.

Sorry, just realised that sounded like a lecture! What you write doesn't always "sound" how you would like it!

lol i know what you mean!
i know i have to make changes, and i have made some big changes.. but its happening gradually..

as for the jacket potato skins.. they are my favourite!! and i love pasta.. but hate the brown stuff... it just doesnt taste right.. and the texture is all wrong!!! i love basmati rice tho.. :-) ill see what my results are next time i get them checked.. see how im doing! they have been good so far though.. :-)

ive just had pasta for my dinner, a smaller portion than normal.. a 2finger kitkat, and im going to check my sugars now...
i was 6.7 about half hour before dinner.. and im now.. 7.5.. thats pretty good isnt it?!! better than having big portion and a bourbon biccys lol
