Hi every one ,
From last few months i was feelin pins and neefdles in my feet. Some times i felt a burning feelin in feet and now( last 5 weeks) my feet mostly stays cold even with socks on or in blanket.

Consulted my gp and he said may be retinopathy/poor circulation etc etc( refferd me to hospital but still waiting for appt).. I am really worried about this . Can any one tell me in more detail about this , also been told by gp to put cream on it to keep soften . Which cream/lotion works best in this case.
Pls advice

Well, I suppose I can start off explaining some of it.

Retinopathy is an eye condition and has nothing to do with feet. Neuropathy is a condition where your nerves become damaged and is most likely what is meant here. Feet are mostly the first to suffer from this condition since being an extremity they may well suffer from circulation problems and hence nerve damage.

If you lose the feeling in your feet you may damage them so you have to pay attention to your feet in case any damage goes undetected. Circulation problems could mean that they are slow to heal and the risk of infection is increased.

Keeping the skin soft enables you to prevent the dry scaly skin that some time occurs and gives you the opportunity to inspect them. My surgery prescribes Aqueous Cream BP which is cheap and comes in big pots. There are many creams on the market but whichever one you choose will help.

@Squire Fulwood
Yes you are rite its neuropathy by mistake i wrote retinopathy.

From yesterday i started putin lotion , today i will try getting some proper foot cream. Other than what else should i do to keep things better , as i am still waiting for hospital appointment which may take a bit long (i live in london and its quite busy here gp told me it may take around 8 weeks or so).
Thx

According to your profile you have been a type 1 diabetic for 8 years and you are on insulin. Apart from the feet I can't think of anything except to say you should carry on as you are going.

Don't spend a lot of money on fancy foot creams. Buy a cheap moisturizer it is enough and does a good job. Expensive creams do nothing that these moisturizer don't and at a fraction of the cost.
Pit a big dollop on the underneath of your foot every day and then put you sock on and let it do its stuff all day. If you don't wear socks then I am stuck.

Not all foot creams are suitable for diabetic Feet (don't ask why). There' one called Flexitol Heel Balm which is suitable and was recommended by my Podiatrist, it is by far the best foot cream I've ever used.

Like noblehead I also use Flexitol, which I get free with my medical exemption card on prescription. Having diabetes means you can apply for free prescriptions, to those who are not aware.
