Places and things that are pronounced differently to their spelling

I was once in MAD-rid New Mexico ( having a milkshake). But my daughter now lives in M'drid, Spain.

Yes I just caught that! There I was thinking I'd been so confused by my recent phone-Internet struggles that I'd confused this place too! So I removed my post. Then you posted. So here I am back again. Slightly less confused than before, but still with a headache from all the phone discussions!

The village of Southwick is pronoused how it's spelt. All be it with a slight Wiltshire accent..
 
So, actually like South Wick, and not more like Southwark?

Missouri -- either MizzOORee or MizzOORuh, depending, what on, I don't know.

New Orleans -- NAWluns by some who live there
 
Chippenham. Is more Chippinum.
Though tourists from across the pond ask for Chippiing-HAM... Bit like Birming-HAM. All about emphasis on frying the "back bacon.." There are places like touris map directions to Corsham. Core-SHAM. Where where we're more Corshum.
Oddly, down yer tis, Burningum.

Bristol, Brizzle
Bath, pending on dialect is Baff or Bauth.
 
Slough -> "ough" is pronouced OW as in Cow not OUGH as in Cough
 
Sean is generally pronounced SHAWN, but apparently also can be SHAN, SHEN,or SHEYN

(Sean Bean's name always makes me laugh as I think it logiically ought to be pronounced either SEEN BEEN or SHAWN BAWN instead of SHAWN BEEN...)

"dogies" as in "whoopee ti yi yo, git along little dogies" (rounding up cattle) -- I'm always surprised at the people who pronounce it as if they were gonna go out and round up some doggies. It's doe-gies, hard g.
 
Guildford (Surrey) is pronounced without the first d?

Over here across the pond, in Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and New York (and for all I know, other states),
Birmingham is pronounced BirmingHAM, although named for Birmingum.

Bremen is BREEmen.

And Hereford cattle are HURfords.

Hi Saskia, just been very busy with getting one of our cars ready for its annual road safety test, and with work related requirements, thank you for your most welcome note here.

In the area of Scotland where I grew up, Cattle were known as "Coo Beasties"
 
In bits of Buckinghamshire, where I had family, some of the older generation pronounced Cows, " Kays"
