My Husband has type 2 diabetes. He was on Metformin to control it. Recently, he suffered from Kidney Failure and Acute Sepsis. He was in Intensive care where he went onto dialysis for 72 hours. During his stay in hospital, he was taken off of all his medication, because with the Kidney Failure, all the medication was building up in his Kidneys and was killing him. During his stay in hospital, he was receiving 3 meals a day, and his blood sugar seemed under control, so they sent him home without Metformin. His blood sugar seems to be reasonably under control by his diet, as I am trying to give him 3 meals a day. However, because of his Kidney problems, he has to drink a lot more than he ever used to. He used to drink diet cola, but we have read that this is not so good for him. We switched to Tesco 50% fruit Squash. The big question I have is, is this squash ok for him, he drinks at least 2 litres of it a day (diluted of course, and not too strong), I have searched and searched the internet for the answer, all I can find, is that pure fruit juice is not very good for diabetics, a small amount is ok, but not too much. So I am so lost, please, can anybody help me to help my husband. I will just add that he hates just water. Thank you to all that read this post, and I thank you for any answers you may give.

Thank you

Tracy

H iand welcome,
Most fruit juices or Squashed contain a lot of sugar,
If you have the container look at the total Carbohydrates( Mainly Sugar), and below that there should be a figure "Of which Sugars that is the sugar content.
I think Diet Cola would be better as it contains no sugar.
Plain Water would be the answer, and if you can find a Sugar free, low Carb squash this would be Ok.
Im not from the UK,so don't know your brands very well
Good luck

Hi Tracy, all I drink is orange squash or water and it doesn't affect my bg. I always buy the no added sugar one, I done a post a long time ago when I was having problems with my sugars and mentioned drinking this to see if anyone thought it would cause a problem and everyone said it should be totally fine. Hope your husbands feeling better xx
