sounds more like coeliac disease/thyroid issues if I'm hones but there isn't any immediate reason to panic

We can't diagnose you. The a1c test you are waiting for will clarify things for you and your doc.
Whatever the outcome, diabetes is not the end of the world.

A fasting blood test of 7 or above is a marker for diabetes, but diabetes cannot be diagnosed from that alone. Only an HbA1c test will show if you have Type 2 or not. If your first result was low enough (and by that I mean not sky high) then a second HbA1c test is done to confirm matters. I do advise you to ask for print outs of your blood test results. You are entitled to these and can just ask for them. You need to know the actual numbers. Also, you need to know the numbers from other things such as cholesterol, triglycerides, liver and kidney functions. It would also be useful for you to know the numbers for your vitamin tests and thyroid.

Your fasting blood glucose of 7 was exactly on the cut off line. As I said before, 7 and above is a marker for diabetes, but in itself, 7 is not high. Most people have very much higher levels than 7 when diagnosed. If your HbA1c is also borderline - ie. just above or just below the diabetes cut off level (which is 48) then a second test is done. Mine was 52. I had a second test, which came back as 53, so my diagnosis was confirmed. Just ring up and ask what your first one was. We can't help with this. The receptionist will tell you most likely, and DO ASK for all the print outs. There is no point in guessing. Being told "high" means absolutely nothing, just the same as being told "fine".

Your bloodtests to date are reason for a HbA1c test; they won't be able to say anything until that's done, so it's not so much withholding information, but not jumping the gun. For all the doc knows you might still be prediabetic, not diabetic at all, or something's scewing your numbers. I have vit. D deficiency, and rickets because of it. In the summer I'm fine, catching loads of sun, but in the winter I have to rely on salmon and such, because the supplements give me migraines. When low, and it did get extreme sometimes, I was too weak to cut up my own meat at dinner. Washing my hair was something that required courage. Walking stairs was especially tough on the thighs. Riding an oh so typical dutch bicycle? Haven't dared get onto one in years. Not to mention regularly breaking my pinkie toes. So it's something that can have a big impact. A wonky thyroid, that fatigues you too, so there's a double whammy right there. For me, my dosage was off for a while (negligent Endo), so that threw off my diabetes as well. So make sure both get sorted out, IF you are a type 2, because they can all influence each other. Vit d isn't really a vitamin, it's a hormone. Thyroidhormones. Insulin, another hormone... If you're imbalanced, it's like a bunch of domino's. At least, that's how it felt for me. (There are a few more hormones 'off' for me though; testosterone, oestrogen, and a bunch of brain chemicals as well.). Basically, it's a lot to tackle all at once, but it can be done. So whether you turn out to be diabetic or not, do take care of these other issues. It's all nothing to sneeze at, but all managable once diagnosed and treated properly. Good luck!

My thyroid doesn't work so I take a daily dose of thyroxine to top up the lack - I've done thins for a very long time now, and it seems to work.
I have type two diabetes and I just avoid high carb foods - sometimes my meals can seem rather odd - chicken with roast veges then berries and cream and coffee with cream as well - but I feel great and not doing at all badly for my 67 years.

They rarely do. This is why you need to be proactive and find things out for yourself. Sad, but true.

In my opinion, that is not too high. Mine was 25 and my doctor said it was high.

I am type 2 diabetic, and also have underactive thyroid. Therefore, I also take a daily dose of thyroxine.

Try not to stress everything should be a lot clearer after you’ve had various results back.
At that point yourself and your doctor will have a way forward, like others have said tho try not to panic.

There’s plenty of help, advice and support available especially on this forum .
