Please help!! Waitrose refuse to stock 'LivLife Low Carb Bread'

My response from Livlife today

"Hi
Waitrose have decided to stop ordering the product. We will still continue to sell in to Budgens, ocado and Morrisons.
We hope to set up a BUY ONLINE service shortly access through the website.
Thanks"

This doesn't seem to fit in with what Waitrose told Crasper but is still a little bit positive.

At least WR are thinking about it, let me dig out my customer service response from BA, when I pointed out the lack of diabetic friendly foods in their lounges.

Not even a pack of nuts (in case there are allergy sufferers apparently, who can't recognise the word NUT in front of their face)

They suggested I might like to eat toast

I have tracked down Livlife bread at Ocado. It means having grocery delivered but I ordered four loaves and made order up to £40 so get free delivery. This should last quite some time. Have no Sainsburys nearby.

Hi. I have just bought LiveLife on line at Amazon. I got this really long letter from waitrose about not stocking low carb bread anymore. In a nut shell its not because they haven't got the room it's because there was to much wastage had to throw a lot away. Also said they might try it again in the future to see how it sells. I said they should advertise it more.

I did think this was the reason behind Waitrose's decision. In fairness it wasn't very well marketed and unless you were a member of a diabetes forum you would never have heard of it.

Sorry I can't help you with this problem, as I am in the US. DO you have a Wal-Mart or a similar store? That might help. Or if you find no in-store options try finding some almond flour and some recipes for almond flour bread.

I went looking for livlife but no joy in the end went to Holland and Barratt bought some flax seed and made my own following a recipe I found on line 5 mins prep 25 mins baking and ready. I think it is very low carb and I enjoyed it. The protein in flax is very good as well

Glad you have found one you like

I like flaxseeds, but have no luck when I bake with them I enjoy this bread made with psyllium husk powder

Try hi- lo bread from sainsburys it's 5 carbs per slice so not much more than livlife

Hi

Hi - I eat the Danish bread as that is low carb - 15 carbs for 2 slices. Warburtons, Tesco do their own.

I get mine online from a site called bulk powders.

I buy loafs of stuff from Bulk Powders.. Coconut flour and whey protein products. Recommendsd company from me!

Dear James

Please reestablish this product in your stores.... Please.

Why can't your stores lead the way with low carb products?
Why can't you look at ambient products with less than 30g per meal and help the UK lead the way with better health?

Why can't you research some of the excellent recipes that are healthy, but low in carbs and give the ever increasing obese population a chance to try something that is better for their health.

I realise fully that you are a business. Indeed I helped to set up the Hays distribution centre delivering products to your stores in Milton Keynes in the mid 90's, I purchase regular lower carb products everytime I visit your store in Rushden. Your removing this product from your stores will impact on the frequency of my visits... That always end up with buying products of higher profits like food mixers, phone chargers, cooking aids etc.

It is very short sighted of your company to remove this product line from your stores. I am very disappointed.

There is a huge difference in people that frequent your stores compared to Tesco etc. I commented on this fact to my partner whilst sat in your cafe in Rushden last week. There were less obese people in your store in Rushden compared to all other supermarkets that we have shopped at... Looking at your stores and the ranges of foods is the reason why. You do not specialise in junk, carb high foods.

I repeat my disappointment in your withdrawing this product from your shelves.

Put very eloquently much better than the email I sent I was ranting on about it I bet he thought who is this MAD WOMAN. Then I got carried away and went right of the subject asking him why can't he put notices in the windows asking people not to leave there dogs In the car in this heat. Makes me so ANGRY!!!!! I thought I might as well get it all in. Heheheh

They only sell in the UK which only goes as far north as Sunderland apparently.

....and not as far south as here either...checked and they don't keep it [hi-lo] in my local store although they do have it in some of their stores in Kent....if its new [I don't know] perhaps they're seeing how it sells before they decide to stock it in all stores..

The total number of sufferers is irrelevant.
It is the number of people who adopt dietary restrictions who matter.

Unfortunately the vast majority of T2Ds don't seem to be adopting a low carb lifestyle - so until they do there won't be a sustainable market for specialist products.

Whereas I think coeliacs (and other people with e.g. IBS) see gluten free as a way to eat bread without the problems, and there is a thriving market.

My personal view is that T2Ds shouldn't be eating bread at all - but I find it easier to just give something up than dole out a finely controlled ration each day.

As the very reasonable response said, it wasn't selling.
So blame the customers, not the store.

Cheers
