Please help

Hi all, sorry for leaving it late. My HBA1C result was 6.1% and the nurse told me I will remain as type 2! I cannot believe what carbohydrates do to me! I'm quite a savoury person and finding it hard!

Brilliant result. 6.1% is 43 in new money which is a result most people will envy.

You will find the food less hard when you experiment with new foods that are low in carbs. Many people say how much they enjoy their new menu and most of them say that they would not like to go back to their old ways.

hi @Nbunsell welcome to the forum, i will go for my first HBA1C tomorrow since i was diagnosed, On the face of it your readings do not look that bad. Just need to cut out the carbs.

I have cut carbs since Friday and my results have been better but now they are too low! felt dizzy, sweating and oh my the headache!! Took a dextro tablet and now I'm fine! I have eye screening on 8th July and have to attend a 'Desmond course?' Take care

Hi @Nbunsell , welcome to the forum, take it slowly there is no rush. You say you cut the carbs and then the results were too low. Usually type 2s don't experience hypo's i.e. very low blood sugar. What were your very low figures?

Think you need to cut the carbs slowly. With regards the testing it has to be just before you eat, then at 1hr then at 2hr, it will be only then when these figures start to mean anything. This is when you will be able to determine which foods are affecting you and then be either able to reduce the portion or stop eating that particular food altogether.

Your figures look very good, but as for cutting the carbs you have to replace the less carbs which is the calories you need for energy and replace with fats, i.e. cheese, fat on meat, butter on some vegs or cook with it, yogurt, cream.

Hi again,
Unfortunately when you attend the desmond course everything you have learnt on here will be contradicted on the DESMOND course. They actually tell you this disease will progress and it's perfectly normal to be in the diabetic range between 43 and 53 HbA1c, I personally found the course and the information they gave 'Criminal'. There was only a very small amount that was helpful, if I had not had all this info first from here, I would have looked at it differently and accepted their advice.
Pleased I was here first.

Regards,

Neil
