PMT and eating

I have raging PMT. I am moody and emotional. And eating too much. I have only been diagnosed for 3 weeks. Lost 11lbs. Now I don't care what I eat or what it does to me. I know its because my period is due but I feel so rubbish. I don't want to make myself ill. Is this normal. How do the other ladies here cope with PMT? :(

(I'm sorry if this topic has been covered recently. If it has will someone kindly point me in the direction of the thread. Thank you)

You have my sympathy! Can you persuade yourself to only eat non-carb food? eg cheese, meat, eggs? It's the carbs that will get you, outside what you normally eat.

One way is to have nothing in the house that you're not allowed to eat, thought I appreciate that's pretty impossible if you don't live alone.

At my worst, I used to keep a supply of old saucers from the second-hand shop and smash them against an outside wall in a place where it was easy to sweep up afterwards. Good for relieving the feelings! Or if you get low instead of angry, popping bubblewrap is good.

Evening primrose oil or starflower oil also work for some people.

If it's really bad and every time, discuss it with your GP or practice nurse.

I have suffered very badly with PNT over the years, but I can say that it has eased as I have got into the low carb diet. As the more carbs I ate the more I craved. However it is still worse when I am pre-menstrual, I have less control and care less about controlling myself. Which is bad as my levels ar naturally higher and more volatile when I am pre-menstrual anyway.

I find that the 85% chocolate is good for those chocolate cravings, OK it is not my favourite cadburys, but it does in an emergency, and for savoury cravings I eat nuts, or maybe cheese.

Thanks for the replies. Its good to know i'm not the only one who goes a bit mad at pmt time. In my sensible head I think 'eat carefully you are diabetic!' But in my hormonal head I am thinking 'if its not fastened down and its bad for you... eat it!!'

Try the white chocolate roughy recipe in the food section. For emergencies only ( very fattening ) but low carbs. And of PMT isn't an emergency I don't know what is!!

I have PMT for 2 weeks before my cycle starts and I am like a bear with a sore bum!!! I get irritable, whiney and very hungry! It's those 2 weeks when I crave sweet stuff very badly but since I've been diagnosed, I have not given in to that craving and gone for chocolate. I buy bags of sugar free strawberry and cream flavoured lolliepops and they are OH SO GOOD and they don't taste like they are good for you so you can feel a little naughty eating them without worrying about your BG levels going through the roof.
