I'm type 1 with neuropathy and have been refused an appointment with the podiatrist. Is this normal?

Strange are the ways of some of these medical people. I don't know if that is a universal way of treating people but my eyebrow is raised in surprise. If you can't get an appointment then who can?

My consultant and diabetic nurse both referred me but I'm genuinely shocked with the reply

I can only suggest that you contact your GP and ask the reason your referral was refused. I am sure a lot of us would like to know why.

Yes same here been told I won't get podiatrist until feet go black what with cash strapped NHS. .

My mum was told the same and to go private and she's in her late 70's. I said surely with her being diabetic they could make an exception? We were told no as the surgery no longer employed a podiatrist and they will only refer to the Hospital when it gets serious because of cuts in funding. Very difficult having to explain this to Mum who can't understand when she has paid her national insurance all her working life and has to go private

I get five free visits (1 every 10 weeks) to a private podiatrist a year under government health care plan.

If I need to see the podiatrist more than the five times I pay for it at $60.00 a visit.

It might be worth checking if there is a university offering podiatry courses locally. Northampton Uni run a clinic for members of the public to self refer and make a reasonable charge.
