I have been told that due to new Government guidelines my podiatry care will be stopping after my next appointment.Has anyone else been told this?

My foot care has always been done by my diabetes nurse at the surgery. She tests for sensitivity and pulse and checks for ulcers. No need to see a specialist podiatrist unless you have problems with your feet.

I saw the podiatrist once when I was first diagnosed but never since. Luckily my husband's niece is a podiatrist and she checks for me.

My dad is blind (not diabetes related) and T2 so qualifies to see the podiatrist every 6 weeks - they kept moving his appointments and cancelling them until it became a gap of 14 weeks - I spoke with them and they said it's happening all over the country there is a crisis in the field as they leave to set up privately and no one is training to take their place. At the moment our NHS podiatrist is on maternity leave and no one has replaced her.

In the 14 weeks I did get someone to come to his house to cut his nails etc, I have continued this as it is so important but he is having to self fund it.

Myself I have never seen a podiatrist my DSN does all my foot checks

My dn checks my feet once a year. She did say as being a type2, I could see the nhs podiatrist, but that would only be twice a year. Have since heard, it has stopped because of lack of funds.
As I suffer with bad hard skin, I pay privately for one to come to my house every 6 weeks. She charges me 26 pounds a visit. I am happy with paying as I could not deal with the hard skin myself. It's worth every penny

Sadly I think this and other services they now consider as expendable and withdraw funding which will force people to pay privately. My mums surgery has stopped all Podiatry services even for people with diabetes and told us she will have to pay for this service herself and go private. The DN will still check her feet every six months though, not sure what will happen if they find anything seriously wrong, will she be referred to hospital or what they have not said

Type 1 in northern Ireland here. I see podiatry once a year. They don't send reminders of the yearly appointment though so I'm guessing they are saving money that way and possibly hoping some might forget..
