Pork scratchings

These are a favourite with many forum-ers as a snack, so I bought some today at a country fair. They are described as "traditionally hand cooked" (but only packed in the UK, and therefore made heaven knows where) and apparently contain 6.5 carbs per 100grams.
I was surprised to see the ingredients include wheat flour and rusk, MSG, hydrolised soya protein, sugar and dextrose. They also smell awful.
Are these the same sort everyone else likes?
I'm afraid they're going in the bin.

Morrisons sell the raw skin for roughly 60-80p a tray. I buy this and make my own. There are some really rancid packets out there.

Proper pork scratchings only contain pork rind and salt. Those sound particularly awful DJ and the bin sounds like a good place for them. I have, on occasion had pork crunch which contains a little rice flour and seasoning but still come in at 0.1g carb per 100g and they taste reasonable. I choose them sometimes to avoid the amount of fat that saturates that you find in real pork scratchings

If I remember correctly there was a discussion about these soon after I joined last year, and I believe that the "Awfully Posh" ones on Amazon were a firm favourite. They just contain the pork rinds and sea salt.

Read the label, not all pork scratchings are the same in terms of carbs - Tescos etc sell a variety of carb contents but you can get 0g or 0.1g per 100g packs quite easily (often hanging up in the alcohol aisle in Tescos!)

Like Mrs Vimes, I make my own, but I add various spices to pep them up a bit too.

The only downside of home made scratchings are they're so delicious I rarely have any left over for another time. They all end up in tummy. :)

I have found Hogbites in a few branches of Sainsbury's and they don't have any MSG. 0.1g carbs per 75g bag, only Cornish sea salt and pork rinds. £1.20

Wow, hard to believe someone managed to cram all that muck into my packet compared with the good stuff you're recommending. I thought, "country fair, cheese stall, pork scratchings, should be ok" . Wrong. The stilton I bought isn't bad though.
Thanks for your advice.
Usually I make my own from the rind off belly pork.
