Hi all

Just recently diagnosed and cutting out the carbs,

Now i hate eggs and milk, so breakfasts are a pain I have been having a couple of bits of bacon with mushrooms and a tomato, but I do like my porridge (made with water)

my levels in the morning are usually around 5.0-5.2, but when I have my 40g of Porridge with cinnammon and some coconut in my one hour reading is 11.2 and by two hours its down to 5.4.

Is the spike to 11.2 acceptable or not? I do love my porridge. Or does anyone have any other Breakfast suggestions.

Thanks

Scott

I loved my porridge but until I get my BG levels sorted out I cannot tolerate it at all so I do understand where you are coming from. :(

Fish can be an acceptable alternative, poached haddock or kippers and cold meats or cheeses are another. I know you say you don’t like milk but you could try yoghurt which you can mix with apple and/or berries and cinnamon and topped with a mixture of seeds.

Test before eating and 2 hours afterwards to see how your BG levels react.

You have to decide for yourself if those spikes fit in with your plan. Making your porridge with water instead of milk makes little or no difference to its carb count.( but I know it's the authentic method).
If you don't like most of the alternatives already considered, you could try hthe ingredients if a German or austrian breakfast, i.e.
slices of cheese and cold meat with or without low carb crackers and a bit of lower sugar fruit, such as berriesand/or a handful of nuts.
I sometimes have a bit of a soft cheese like Brie, heated in the microwave until it starts to bubble, on a pyrex plate, without bread.
