Hi
As the title suggests I tried porridge today for the first time since diagnosis In January. Followed a recipe I found and used 25g rolled oats (experiment - know could've tried less) and microwaved it with water then added full fat Greek yogurt and 50g blueberries. Just fancied a change from Greek yogurt and blueberries or rhubarb with linseed, pumpkin and sunflower seeds - also curious as to what outcome might be now I'm 2.5 stone lighter and HbA1C down from 106 to 47. So ..... 6:2 before breakfast and 6:2 two hours afterwards. Success you might say? Yes, I'd agree if I hadn't done a one hour after eating test to try to find the spike ....... and it was 9:8. Someone once told me on here to avoid things that spiked higher than 7:8 at an hour if I wanted to keep within non diabetic levels and deep down I do agree with this but if I followed other advice and only tested before and at 2 hours I'd be really pleased. Which way to lean?

Porridge does almost exactly the same to me, OK at two hours so I thought 'result' until I tested about 10.0 at 1 hour. I might still have it occasionally but it won't be a regular breakfast choice for me, but some can tolerate it better than others.

I have a similar spike, but I am putting up with it in the hope that the oats will help bring down my cholesterol.

My experience was the same as Sanguine's. I've now removed all grains from my diet, except for very occasional white rice. Whenever I indulge in the rice, I find my BG stays elevated for literally hours afterwards, so I'm probably going to give it a miss from now on as I think a short, sharp spike that is back to normal within 2 hours is probably much better for me than bathing my cells in insulin for hours on end.

Hi
That's one of reasons I tried porridge - my cholesterol was up a touch last test. Eating nuts, using e.v. olive oil etc and really wanted to use porridge too but may leave if until next result. If not dropped will have my oats then walk after to help drop the spike!
