I've been reading several posts that say, or suggest, that porridge is not good for T1's.
The nutritionist definitely said that we do not need to change our daughter's diet, just carb count and provide appropriate insulin. And to go for the low GI as much as possible.
So what's the story with porridge?
Thanks for advice

In theory, we can eat whatever we like as long as we take enough insulin. In practice it looks a bit differently. Carbohydrates cause nasty spikes and even if the sugar levels are fine few hours later, its not healthy to have them. If you manage to avoid spikes and maintain good sugar levels, eating porridge is fine. Most of us find it difficult though (if not impossible) and that's why we avoid eating too many carbs. I stopped eating porridge long time ago :(

Could NOT have said that better myself. But for me the practice is MUCH different and has no rhyme or reason. I don't eat porridge and never have but carbs in general are a **** shoot for me. I like keto.

Hi @W00sterz00ey me again! My understanding is Your daughter will need carbs for growing so don't exclude anything (that's what I was told for my daughter). Especially low carb diets. As an adult it's different. I was told to eat porridge whilst I was pregnant as its low GI so shouldn't spike blood sugars post meal. Obviously this is plain porridge with no added syrups flavours etc. Timing of insulin to food can impact and your daughter will still be honeymooning too x

Thank you @1Sarah1. That's really good to know. We make our own porridge from oats and soya milk. No additions. That's how we had it before and so decided to carry that over. Might look into whole oats tho. Hear they are slower release.
How do we know how long she's in honeymoon period? Are there any signs to when the pancreas completely gives up on production?
