You say on here that my Alpine sugar free muesil at 30 grams is far to high in carbs and should have porridge, but lookiing at porridge in the shops they bare all 60grams of carbs, am now at a loss

Sometimes it is not as straightforward as carb comparisons. There are portion comparisons and the weight made up for porridge, weight for weight made up it may be different compared to a serving of museli.

Also, some of us can tolerate some forms of carbs, but not others. That is why meter testing before and 2 hours after eating is so vital. it helps us to find out hwo we are affected as individuals.

For example, I cannot eat porridge, museli, cereal, rice or more than 1 tablespoon of pasta at a serving. But i can eat potatoes and wholemeal bread. Someone else may have the opposite results.

I think it is a question of eat and test to see what works for you.

I have a sachet of Oats so Simple with skimmed milk and a little fruit sugar in the morning. Then I do some exercise such as go for a walk or some Zumba and when I test at 2 hours my levels are usually almost back down to my fasting level. If I don't exercise my levels still usually come in below 7.00.

Everyone is different. It was suggested to me to try a sweet potato as I am missing baked potatoes, so I did. It was a big mistake. I didn't need to test to know my levels were up. Yet others can tolerate sweet potatoes.

Alpins sugar free museli - typical serving weights 55g. Carbs = 40g

Porridge typical serving 40g (uncooked weight) carbs 22.5g

So going by serving size porridge is fewer carbs. You have to add in the milk, if you use it, for the museli or porridge too.

This is my version of IanD's porridge; It's very tasty, very filling (and keeps you regular  )

2 Dsp ground amlonds
2 Dsp ground flaxseed (mixed light & dark)
2 Dsp Coconut Flour
2 Dsp mixed seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, flax, sesame, hemp)
1 tsp unsweetened cocoa
sweetener to taste
water

1 Dsp cream

Mix everything but the cream together with enough water to make a thin paste, then nuke in the micro for about 2 to 3 mins until hot & thick. Then pour over cream and devour. It's a little odd at first, but after a few mouthfuls it's wonderful. If you search for 'IanD Porridge' you'll get his version made with soya milk.
