Does porridge hav a lot of sugar in as I changed from cereal to porridge as was feeling sleepy after having the cereal, but am still feeling sleepy after the porridge to and I don't put any sugar on it

I am not sure it has any sugar in it but it is a cereal and will have carbs in. My box of Scott's Porage Oats (Strange spelling but they have patented it) is 60% carbs.

Hi Piper,
Porridge turns to blood glucose very rapidly by the digestive system.
I have to limit porridge to three desert spoons dry added to water and milk before heating.
If one is a diabetic expect it to spike ones blood glucose the same is true of bread and potatoes.

I soak 2 dsps wholegrain oats (groats) in hot water overnight (thermos) and reheat with butter and coconut oil in the morning. I also add berries, sweetener, chia, flax, cinnamon depending on what's in the cupboard. There is also a recipe on here somewhere for porridge with an egg beaten in. Anything a bit carby I eat in moderation with fat added to try to spread and lessen the rise in BS. I don't call it a spike, which is what I would get with fruit juice, for example.
