Hello

I am rubbish at portion control and although I've started adding my meal details to the "what have you eaten today" thread. I would like to see some pictures of what people eat to nosey at portion sizes. Is there anywhere on here or the interweb in general anyone knows of?

Thanks :)

A useful way of keeping portion sizes in check is to use much smaller plates. It can trick your brain to think you are eating the same amount. Some of the problem with large portions is because our eyes are bigger than our belly.

I use appetizer plates and mine are white with a thick bright yellow rim. My food only stays in the white part.

I do however eat 4 small meals a day on that same plate. My stomach doesn't like a lot of food at once and the more I eat the hungrier I get so keeping portions small but more frequent works for ME

The plate thing is genius.

My parents have recently overcome a long standing issue thanks to using different sized plates. Dad would always feel that Mum was hard done by in terms of portion size as she would always aim to serve herself much, much smaller portions than him. He's a strapping, very fit, physically very hardworking, active, tall, broad, slim, muscular 70 year old - she's tall but slighter and although not overweight, is more prone to weight gain.

He wants everything to be equal. But he needs way more food than she does!

The answer has simply been to change plate size! Dad still has a big dinner plate, but Mum now uses a smaller one. Both plates are filled to the same proportion as each other, generally. He's happy, because that fits his 'equal' mindset. And she's happy, as she's now not feeling that she needs to eat as much as he does.

:):):)

It completeLy helps me. I even use ' tasting' ( appetizer) forks and spoons so I eat slower. Kind of like chop sticks. Haha. I can only pick up a little at a time. I call all of them my dollhouse dishes.

We don't even have dinner plates in our kitchen. There're in a storage room for when we have company.

My hubby uses a huge serving sized salad bowl for his portion control!

I also have 'tasting ' wine and martini glasses. For some reason I have no problem getting those to my mouth!!

I've done portion control and weighing foods for so long I need not do it anymore except for my protein. Much too easy to over eat.

If I am making a salad then I use a large bowl and it is filled right up - if I am eating berries I use a tea cup and do not quite fill it.
My meter tells me that I can eat the big lot of salad as lunch and the cup of berries as dessert, and the scale tells me that I do not put on weight.
