Hi All

I can certainly fill my head full of all the negatives of diabetes and wondered what you all thought might be the positives?

For myself, its made my diet a lot healthier and helped me to focus on making myself as healthy as possible!

It might sound odd, but when there is a level of expectation that diabetes is a life sentence, it's nice to go out and show people that it isn't and that you can live a successful life in spite of it.

To put it another way, I've played cricket in multiple places around the globe, am in the midst of my second career and (I'd say) successful at it, and have not been stopped from doing anything I wanted as a result of it. And I'm 40.

The point being that it doesn't stop you unless you let it. Would I have had a different life if I hadn't been diagnosed T1? I can't say. What I can say is that it hasn't stopped me. It's not a case of there being positives or negatives. It's simply that having a long term illness or disease is not a life sentence. It's simply something to carry on and live with.

It doesn't define us but it helps to shape us. We can choose whether that is a positive or negative thing.

unfortunately there is not a lot we can do about our conditions, we just have to make the best we can of it. I am going thro a rough time of it also lately. I am on new insulin and it takes some getting used to. everyone should try to do their best It's often not good decisions, but we must find what suits us to make the most of it. I also feel a lot of type 1s might not be as good as usual at the moment. Maybe it's the time of year or the clocks and weather changing in the uk

Sorry to hear of your troubles richyb! Are things improving??

yes feeling better today. I increased my Toujeo this morning from 19 to 24. I know that is a lot as it takes 3 days to have full affect, but I felt awfull being very high sometimes in the 15s. Control been good today, Still increasing just before evening meal But this will be better tomorow ( might even have to reduce slightly). When I was on Levimer this used to happen every now and then and i had to adjust from my normal 16 plus 6 down to 13 plus 4 for a few weeks then it would have to rocket up to 28 units for a few weeks then back down to the normal 16 for a few months. Been out a bit today walking. Felt good. Work tommorow. I have a Libre now which helps keep check (expensive though)
best wishes to you all
