Possibility of a misdiagnosis

I was diagnosed about 2-3 months ago, after going too hospital with a BG reading 20.6, since then I have lost 3 1/2 stone and excercise regulary.

For dinner I had a chicken breast in a tomato sauce with some wholemeal pasta and some salad, now I would expect this too make me have a significant rise in sugar levels - just took them 1 hour and a half after eating and had a BG level of 4.9 - This cannot be right for a diabetic - can it?

I am not clutching at straws just genuinely baffled by such a reading.

Check your readings later, pasta is slow acting and maybe 3 or 4 hrs may rise. If it hasn't then you might want to consider getting a second opinion. Maybe your Mom can help you with that.

I thought about that, but I would expect some sort of rise with that dinner, I spoke too her about it and she said the same thing and that it was a bit odd that there was no rise.

Seeing my Doctor Friday and will mention it.

Cheers,

Ben.

Could the strips be misaligned or something technical gone wrong?

I don't believe so, I test as the instructions tell me too test, and it had returned high readings on other diabetics, so doesn't seem too be that.

Might just be that the carbs haven't kicked in yet.......happens to me sometimes and I end up with a hypo for a little while then later Bg will rise........

If your Mom is baffled and she is a DC.......who knows ?

She said she would expect some sort of rise after that dinner, For me it doesn't make sense at all, I've had one Metformin today and that was nearly 13 hours ago and my BG has not gone above 6 today, gonna test later as you and her suggested but I must say it doesn't make much sense.

It's strange it's almost as if I would want it too spike as at least then I would know where I stood.

I wouldn't expect an early spike with that meal......just a steady rise later to a peak at 3,4 or even 5 hrs. That's from my own experience of a similar type of meal. There is nothing much there that is particularly fast acting really.

It is also the case that if you were mis-diagnosed then you may still be producing a fair bit of Insulin. TBH.....I would definitely get a second opinion to find out what is going on with your Insulin production, you can be tested for that.

Will do, thanks Ken (hope I can call you Ken :D ).

Been really good reading and listening too your advice from the short time I've been on here - I do not like bothering my Mother much as she works alot and I must say this forum is absolutely brilliant and can be relied upon for sensible and potentially life saving and changing advice.

Like anyone I hope for a misdiagnosis but would feel comfortable knowing that I have this forum for discussion and support.

Cheers,

Ben.

It could well be the anxiety factor ,This is when someone is anxious and have loads of things going on in there mind at once adrenaline can affect your bg's either way so keep calm
