Prediabetic?

I do not have diabetes
my GP sent me for some fasting blood tests this morning, whilst there I did check my BM it was 8.3 (fasting)
I guess that is going to be a diabetic confirmation when I go back to see the GP next week?

Unfortunately more than likely but its just a bump in the road of life. On the bright side you have already found the forum so you are already on the right track. So a very warm welcome, keep us informed with your results from your Dr and if you have any questions dont he afraid to ask, there are a lot of helpful people here.

It's a higher number than I'd routinely like to see, and if the blood test comes back at that level, you may find yourself having another test to confirm a diagnosis.

However, it is also worth noting that the test you did yourself and the test being analysed by the lab are different. The lab one is measuring venous blood, whereas your own finger-prick test work on capillary blood. Undoubtedly, it's all your blood, and drawn at the same time, but the scores are unlikely to be identical. I couldn't speculate which might be the lower, because I don't know, and in any case, the venous blood result will always trump the hand-held meter one.

Good luck with it all, and if it turns out you have crossed the line to full club membership, it's not the end of the world. Many, many people have used their diagnosis to improve their overall health.

thanks for your words of advice, it means a great deal to me!
Thanks

It is a possibility, but the main thing is not to worry. If you are diagnosed it takes time to adjust but it isn't the end of the world more a chance for a new beginning. I will tag @daisy1 for the new members information which will give you something useful and practical to read rather than panic which is a perfectly natural reaction. Good look for your results and do keep us posted on how you get on
