Hi everyone,
I have developed Post Covid PreDiabetes in 2021 and I'm still not able to manage BG levels so I decided to subscribe to learn from you.
I'm miserable on Keto diets (feeling inflamed, constipated and foggybrained) but can't afford to eat more than 30gr of Carbs without big spikes.
I do have symptoms that are already putting my body under a big stress, but I'm very motivated to learn and to reverse this condition, I know that I can make it!
My A1C is currently 6.1.

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories and tips, it's being priceless reading you!

Hi @Butterfly331 , and welcome,

Sorry about the diagnosis. Do you mind if I ask a few questions? You mention being miserable on keto, feeling inflamed, constipated and dealing with brain fog. But aside from the constipation, the other symptoms you mention sound more like Long/Post Covid than something you would get due to keto, especially if you've been on that diet for a while. If feeling inflamed means joint/muscle pain, that should abate on a keto diet once the carb-flu passes, after a week or two. If you mean intestinal inflammation, you might want to look at a FODMAP way of eating to overlap with keto, maybe, to calm your insides down some? Is it at all possible those two things might not be due to keto, the inflammation and fog? Just wondering; my husband and I have had our dealings with Long Covid, his worse than mine, but the pain he was in was no joke, and you couldn't have a converstation with him for almost 1,5 years. (He's a lot better now, but still forgetful sometimes.). That's why I wonder whether it's due to the diet or due to covid having played a part, as it affected many people in so many different, absolutely miserable ways. Not saying I disbelieve, just wondering out loud. As for the constipation, you might want to add in some full fat greek yoghurt, if you haven't already. Dunno if you use sweeteners? The artificial ones can potentially cause gut flora to die off, resulting in constipation. Lack of fibres might be solved by adding in some psyllium husk into the yog. Just throwing ideas out there. What does your diet consist of at the moment? Maybe there's room for improvement.

Like I said, I'm just shouting out possibilities, none of them may apply. But who knows, where might be something in there that helps. Hang in there eh, and keep looking for answers if nothing seems to fit. Doctors and random people on the internet alike, and everyone in between, none of us know the true impact that C19 is going to have on people until probably decades in our future. So if something doesn't feel right, doesn't gel for you, keep looking for what does fit.
Good luck,
Jo

Hello and welcome.

Purely for the gut aspect - different things work for different people, but I have found if I add extra healthy fat such as olive oil, butter, or cream, all is well. necessary dose varies, so start with a little and work your way up.
