Post meal spikes in allegedly non- diabetic

Hi all, wonder if anyone can clarify.

I've been on lowish carb for around 2 yrs as had 5.6 fbg so wanted to nip things in bud. I am skinny - no abdominal fat - active, no alcohol - but experience really big post meal spikes compared with my husband. Last week I had butternut soup, lamb chop and chickpea veg mix and at 1hr was nearly 11! 2hrs 8.5. This appears to be in prediabetic range. My husband who had same meal, had 2hr of 6.1. My fbg over last couple years fluctuates between 4.7-5.4. Am concerned that magnitude of post meal spikes (a low carb meal at that!) will be causing organ damage.

Any thoughts? Should I visit GP or is my low carb diet actually causing physiological insulin resistance?

Many thanks

Hello and welcome.

I would also be concerned if those sort of figures have become normal for you. If it was a one-off, then probably not much cause for concern. What was your level before you ate? That could be important.

i think you might be approaching the stage where some medication might help you............

ca you increase your activity levels?

i think worrying about organ damage is a bit excessive at this stage...........

a trip to the GP would help I think....:)

Thanks for above. I think I was about 5.5 before that meal. Am active anyway so not sure how I could increase activity levels. Perhaps HbA1c test may be in order....
