Hba1c 46 been told impaired glucose tolerance tested before I ate today was 5.6 then one hour after eating 6.6 then two hours after eating and it was 8.2 is this high which reading is the most important is is post meal or pre meal I only had a bit of salad for lunch

If you only had a salad it is probably a rogue reading. You get one now and again. Did you wash your hands and use new lancet etc. if you get an odd reading, redo it, and see if that's different.

you can't do a glucose tolerance test with salad etc. It needs to be done with a measured amount of glucose.
What do you call a "bit of salad" btw?

So what should it be after eating a normal meal that contains carbs

If your prediabetic having carbs isn't normal! Lol!
You stated that you had a salad so it shouldn't rise significantly at all.
Depending on what you eat carb wise your BSLs should spike more the higher the carb content and size of the meal!
I am carb intolerant so I try to avoid med to high carbs always.
I would suggest that you need to stay in control of your BSLs by not overdoing the carbs.

What was in your salad? Obviously some carbs, or you wouldn't have spiked. There are loads of hidden carbs. Let us know exactly what you ate and drank and we may be able to help.

Ideally, you should be aiming for at the most a 2mmol/l spike at 2 hours and to be under 7.8 at all times. Once you have reached that goal, you can consider lowering it.

I have answered your duplicate thread.

Toms have carbs in but I wouldn't have thought enough to spike you that much. What did you have to drink?

Ah punctuation. Funny how it changes the meaning. I see what you are suggesting.

Don't know why it put y thread on twice sorry. ...I'll test it with a box of maltesers tonight lol

I have merged the threads together so the information is all in the same place.

You do a GTT with a measured glucose drink because it's speed is not affected by the fat in the chocolate.
