Somebody has just posted on Facebook that prawns are high in cholesterol. I love prawns and have them at least twice a week. Does anybody know if they are something I should avoid.

Yes, indeed, prawns are apparently high in cholesterol, but as cholesterol in the diet has almost zero affect on your cholesterol levels, you can eat as much as you like. The human body makes as much cholesterol as it needs, if you eat more, it will make less. This has been very well established for a long time, so anyone (e.g. a nurse) who tells you different, really does need to do a bit of catching up.

I'm afraid that people have these ideas and they start to push them until they become gospel truths - fat makes you fat, don't eat eggs, grain is healthy - then someone does tests and gets the wrong results and they are castigated - look at poor Dr Atkins and low carb diets.

I'm glad that they are OK to eat, I didn't doubt it really but wanted some confirmation, can't find the Facebook post now. Prawns for lunch tomorrow. Just a mo, I had them for lunch today as well.

We eat a lot of prawns and have a couple of 5Kg boxes on order from a prawn trawler friend for xmas.

I would never believe the **** that is posted on Facebook.

Here's a pix of the some banana prawns we got at a good price a while back to make you hungry.

unfortunately I have got an allergy to prawns, it used to be one of my favorite foods...

I was just wondering what to have to eat - looks like it is prawns, they are just defrosting, though I might have to get out the hair dryer and speed up the process.

never heat up seafoods with a heater, they must be defrosted only in cold Water, due to histamine development
