Hi everyone. I've done so well lately and managed to get on top of the snacking that was keeping my numbers up. My average reading has gone from 11 to 7. My main problem now is that in the morning especially I need to pre bolus quite a bit in advance. 1hour in the morning and 30mins at other times. This isn't possible when I'm working as I don't have set breaks and my break can be rescheduled on me at the last minute. I was wondering if anyone has heard or uses fiasp? I've heard from a friend that it acts immediately and so there is no need to pre bolus. Am wondering if I should ask at my next clinic app to change to it. Am currently on Novorapid.

Hi @sjm1308 - as one of the early adopters of Fiasp I've written quite a lot about it here: http://www.diabettech.com/fiasp/

I found that with it I didn't have to pre-bolus at all. It was very fast, but I also saw a number of other changes, such as a reduction in the life of a pump cannula and increased insulin resistance. This culminated last week with it all going properly pear shaped. I'm aware that quite a lot of people have found it difficult to use when using a pump and many have stopped using it.

Are you using MDI or a pump? The reason I ask is that on MDI it's likely that you'll need to modify your bolus strategy for low glycaemic load foods and will need to do additional later boluses during carb absorption. With a pump you can use a multiwavce bolus to do this.

It's probably worth a try, but be aware of the limitations.

It's novorapid with 2 additional ingredients in it. It's available in the uk but still not in Ireland, we're always 2 years behind

It action is also completely different so don't treat it as if it were NR otherwise you will run into problems.

Ah drats. I'm in Ireland so looks like I will be waiting a while as Maria has said
