After a terrible Christmas and mad February , my last HBa1C in March was 43 (up from 34 in October ) , I rested on my laurels celebrated , this morning 6.8 but yesterdays was 5.4 , have to not have beer with my curry ( counted 200g brown rice ) .
Welcome to the forum @Blackqueen. A fasting blood glucose of 5.6 is good if you are pre-diabetic, though it should be 4.0 - 5.4 for non-diabetics. Fasting bgs are often the highest of the day, as the liver can dump stored glucose into the blood stream as we wake - this is called 'Dawn Phenomenon'. These are the NICE guidelines for target readings:
4.5 yesterday morning (previous day only 12.5 carbs as did a fast) but didn't get on here as was busy , 6.8 this morning , on low carb did 51.5 carbs yesterday , why isn't it constantly working ? P.S. just checked the roast in the bag chicken that I ate yesterday and it's got sugar and some type of syrup in the ingredients YUK , well there's the culprit .
"51.5 grams carbs", I cannot handle that amount of carbs even with 850 mg of Metformin, 35 grams/day is my maximum. Maybe try 4-5 days on a lower carb load and see how things work out. Wishing you well.
5.4 this morning 6.2 before lunch Had yogurt nuts and blueberries 3 cups coffee 1 square of 70% chocolate for breakfast . Lunch was 2 slices ham 1 egg lots of leaves , mini tomatoes and dressing ( lemon juice , balsamic and EV olive oil) .
I'm surprised at the amount of meds you are on for someone who is only pre-diabetic are you not type 2 ? How so? (If you don't mind me asking ) I'm trying to avoid more meds as I am on a lot for blood pressure already .
Maybe I am really T2, but I refused to do the oral glucose tolerance test because I am on a low carb diet. I needed the metformin because my BG values had worsened quite suddenly. After a" very frank" discussion with my GP and her consulting with a specialist I was finally granted the medication. I also prefer to take the absolute minimum number of medications but need some for AFib, BP, etc and cancer. You are welcome to ask any questions, after all sharing our experiences is the stuff of forums of this type.
Thanks for replying Pasha , I wish you all the best recovery / remission . I have the blood pressure meds forever (rest of my life) and don't want to go any higher ( previous brain haemorrhage / Stroke ) . I really don't want to make things worse , recently been on a 'Healthier You' Programme and am now also on a Low Carb diet , but I'm a bit scared of the fats in case I go wrong . Cholesterol test tomorrow . Time will tell Pre-Diet . Ever hopeful
