This is why testing helps: anyone can say about anything on the internet, in print or in some course or other, but your meter will only tell you what is true for you, personally. When I started this journey I read very shouty books that told me I'd better do what they said, or I was practically dead already. Stumbled across Dr. Jason Fung, who took a far less militant approach, to put it mildly, but then I still had to figure out what worked for ME. Same as you'll have to do. Work out what works for you, take the time to. Use that meter, see what's effective for your metabolism and lifestyle, and what's absolute rubbish. Because there is indeed a lot of rubbish out there.

Take everything you read with a grain of salt, experiment when you think something sounds plausible, and put your trust in your meter. Unless the strips are out of date, it's not likely to steer you wrong. ;)
You've got this.

Thank you for your advice. So do you test yourself just before you eat, eat your meal and then set an alarm to test 2 hours afterwards? Then ideally what should the results show , below 6?

You are looking to see how your system handled the intake of food, especially carbs. The aim is to mimic as much as possible what a non diabetic would see. If after 2 hours your level is approx' what it was before, then jump for joy. But since we have trouble handling the Glucose, we work to a tolerance of 2 mmol higher, or less, preferably lower than about 8 mmol. This will tell you if there were too many carbs for YOU to handle. So the 2 hour figure depends on the pre meal figure, you could be high before eating, but the meal could be still good for you despite a high reading after.

Oh thank you! This is very helpfu. By 2 mmol, do you mean, say, 6.5 mmol to 8.5 mmol is 2 mmol higher or is it 6.5 mmol to 6.7mmol is 2 mmol higher?

Full points, so although 8.5 mmol is too high really, the rise would be still within aimed target. Obviously as your Hba1c drops over time, you might be 5.5 mmol before eating the same meal, and only rise to 7.5 mmol that time. and it's even possible that as your Hba1c drops, your Insulin sensitivity may improve slightly, so you may only see a rise to 7 mmol with the same meal, It's all about little victories here and there, to try to win the war.
