"Pre-diabetic" fasting glucose and A1c BUT "optimal" fasting insulin

How do I reconcile the discrepancy between unhealthy fasting glucose [and unhealthy A1c], and healthy fasting insulin?

If pre-diabetes (and eventually T2D) are caused by insulin resistance, how could my fasting insulin be "optimal"?

Male, 54, athletic and in otherwise good health. No meds, no other health conditions that I know of.

"Unhealthy" doesn't help much. What is your actual HbA1c? Have you had your insulin levels measured?
