Hi there,
I’m Sarah and I’ve just joined. I really need some answers please....
Does anyone else have a pre-occupation with food? I’m told I think constantly of food even when other things are going on. I admit I am always thinking about my next meal.
Many, many thanks x

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Personally I am not pre-occupied with food, but having belonged to a couple of slimming organisations in the past and even been to a Bariatric Surgery Support Group, I have known many who were pre-occupied with food.

If I have nothing to do, there might be a tendency to think about food, but I keep myself fairly busy and even in retirement I seem to be wondering how I managed with a full time job. It seems to be very much a case of mind over matter, almost like giving up smoking and drinking alcohol, both of which I managed (40 and 10 years ago) by convincing myself that I didn't have a choice, it was stop or be ill or die.

The mind is a canny little blighter and needs some serious controlling, something I struggle with at four o'clock in the morning when everything comes out negative.

Hi Sarah! I know where you are coming from as I too find myself way too preoccupied with food - maybe because the Hubby asks after every bfast what we are having for supper:) Anyway, I started making myself sit down on a Sunday afternoon and make up the menus for the week - every supper anyway as I only have two meals a day now - bfast and supper - working great. That also has cut my obsession with food thoughts as I know what is on the menu and no more thought has to go into it. Reading this Forum is also a good way to think of other aspects of the diabetes journey than just the food! Blessings/L

Hello Sarah. Yes, I'm obsessed with food. The business of planning, buying or growing it, prepping, cooking and eating it takes up a third of my waking hours each day. Another third is whatever my current obsession is, currently garden planning, and the other third is spent confirming that I'm retired, ie doing nothing in particular, except maybe thinking a bit more about food. My reward is a nice (fairly) level line on my BS graph. I'm very happy with this and so is Mrs DeeJay since she gets fed some really nice stuff (including carbs for her)

Hi Sarah,

Yes, I'm always thinking about what time the next meal is, and what I'm going to have!

Always thinking about food. Not really hungry but timing food, timing insulin based where I’m at, figuring out when to eat and bolus between clients. How far in advance to bolus and when can I eat. I love food and eat frequently but it all depends on when I wake, where bg is at and how to work bolus timing and food into my day. Exausting.
