In a couple of weeks I hav a 3 hour long pre pump start clinic! Will I be hooking up to the pump that day or is it just an induction??
Thanks (",)

I think it will be for you to get to know the basics of the pump and for you to get to know carbs etc. have you got your pump?. if not you may get it to get to know it and to have a look .

I never had a pre pump start just a 2 hour session and away with the pump fitted with Insulin in, from what i have seen some people get it on the day with Insulin and others with saline for a couple of weeks

I think it depends where you are, I had a 3 hour pump start clinic in April but didn't start pump until August.

I had few hours start session then was away with insulin loaded, seems to vary.

Thanks for the replies. I got the pump, new meter n all the other stuff with the medtronic 640. I have two 3 hour sessions 2 weeks apart n two 1 hour appointments!!

Every clinic is different, simple solution would be to ring the clinic and ask. Were you given instructions about basal reduction before the appointment?

No instructions. Got call from GP to collect parcel few weeks ago, and next day received appointments in the post!!

Best ring the clinic then and find out what is going on. As no instructions about basal reduction it's a dead cer you wont be going on insulin that day. Perhaps a saline start?

I don't think I'd feel confident goin on insulin that day! Saline sounds good to me!

Well that's fine but do make sure you know what is going to happen at the clinic.

When my pump arrived all those years ago I was instructed do not set it up until rep has been out to see you (Self funding) I was fed up with hypos by this time I just set it up how I thought it should be and away I went. Which just proves how different we all are :)
You will be fine though, take pen and note pad as a lot to take in read the manual and play with the buttons before the apt, if you haven't done so buy pumping insulin (amazon) as it will help you no end.

Can't say with any certainty but surely they would have said if your appointment was your actual start day, I had a couple of appointments prior to the actual start day.
