Apparently my Dr sent me on a prediabetes program I’ve been reading everything on this forum about the tests for it I don’t remember ever having any of the tests. I don’t know how I’m prediabetic, I’m 67 my weight is 59KG I have Crohns, Angina and chronic kidney disease, besides this I have short bowel and Ileostomy after many surgeries my bowel is down to 4ft of small bowel no colon. I’m on low fibre high calorie diet whatever I eat or drink goes right through me high watery output. In the prediabetes program they go on about high fibre low calorie it’s so confusing, when I ask about it they just say that’s for another time. All very confusing to me don’t know what to do?.

Hi @Shastus56 and welcome to the forum.

The test in the UK for Diabetes is just from an ordinary blood withdrawal sample. They could use the same sample for tests of several things, so unless your read the form you wouldn't know it was being done.

The test is HbA1C (often shortened to just A1C). It estimates how much glucose was in your blood over the last 2 to 3 months (the life of a typical red blood cell).

Pre- diabetes can usually be controlled by diet alone, but in your case this may be more of a challenge.

People in this forum have found that the diet that used to be advised by the NHS is one that is almost guaranteed to turrn pre-diabetes int full diabetes, because often (but not always) it emphasises carbohydrates (which raise blood glucose) instead of proteins and fats (which have hardly any effect on blood glucose).

My brother has no colon (due to bowel cancer) and although non-diabetic he can eat nearly the same as his wife who has just turned reversed pre-diabetes.
What can/do you currently eat? Remember that all carbohydrates (both sugars and starches) raise blood glucose since they digest into glucose.

Here is a link the blog post which set me on the path to Type 2 Diabetes remission:

Thank you ianf0ster
I have very poor appetite, I can’t have any foods that can cause a blockage or anything that cause loose output either hence the low fibre, I can’t have greens, or anything with seeds, skins it’s murder trying to peel and de seed tomatoes, can’t have bran or wholemeal, oats, nuts I’m basically on bland food, I have homemade macaroni n cheese, bacon sandwiches, white bread, egg on toast, cheese on toast etc. I drink a litre of double strength Dioralyte and two 200ml bottles of Ensure plus a day which only leaves one 100ml tea or coffee, as can’t have more than 1500ml of fluids per day. I take lots of meds, 7 Imodium and 2 codeine four times a day statins and aspirin for angina 2 Lansoprazole Forceval multi vit and nutrients iron tablets then magnesium twice a day I literally rattle when walking lol. Im also on ProCal powders I bought a treadmill for exercise has don’t go out much. Thank You again for reply.

OK, so you can eat meat, eggs, cheese the 3 main omnivore foods for controlling/reversing diabetes.

Probably cutting down on bread and pasta will be sufficient.

How about fish, cauliflower, courgette? -They are all low carb too.

Fruit is a bit of a problem when combining your situation with (pre-)diabetes, because strawberry seeds can be a problem (they are for my brother). But you should be OK with raspberries, blackberries may also be OK. they are very low carb fruit as are Avocado and of course cucumber though it's used as a vegetable.

I stay away from beef had bad blockage on steak once I stick with more digestible meats chicken, Turkey pork seems to be ok, I could try cutting down on bread and pasta but I wouldn’t be eating much if I did. I can have cucumber if peeled and de seeded, can’t have cauliflower stalks, never tried courgette but would need peeling and de seeding, can’t stand the smell of any fish or raspberries n blackberries. Can’t have beans, corn anything with skins hard for me to digest. I eat plums or peaches peeled I’m ok with bananas and apple peeled. I think my problem is also having poor appetite I start to eat a meal then feel nauseous so can’t finish I’m classed as malnourished past 5-6 years. I was great until Crohns flared 2014 and needed a lot more of my bowel removed. I lost 25kg I was 85kg before surgery then went home and never put any weight back on. I think because of the short bowel everything I eat or drink goes right through so lack any vitamins or nutrients. Then since beginning of this year I’ve been diagnosed with Angina then chronic kidney disease and now pre diabetes feel totally drained, nauseous and all day and think Crohns is flaring again. New meds not working. Thank You ianf0ster for your help.
