Pregnancy ?

Hi,

I have just found this website forum and was wondering whether there are any other pregnant diabetics on here ? I have been a IDD for about 13 years. I am only 8 weeks pregnant, having had a miscarriage last year so early days at the moment. I am finding it difficult to relax as I am constantly anxious about managing my bloods etc, not having too many hypos but sugars can be unpredictable, as ever I suppose !

Would be good to hear from anyone ?

HI,

I am 36 weeks with my 2nd child. I know exactly what you mean about the worry about controling blood sugar. I also had a mc a few years ago. No one ever said that it was done to my diabetes...but I did wonder. At the time my control was not good. With my daughter, I tried my up most best to control my NG....Tje consulatant gave me teh scare treatment about teh dangers of high BG...and I think that I toook it very seriously, and then got told off for being too low! It was the same this time round too. For me, the 1st 12 weeks, my BG tended to be quite high...then teh next 12 weeks, I was low, and had quite a few hypos. Folowing this, it is a matter of going from fortnight to fortnight..and constantly adjcuting my insulin needs.

When I was pregnant with my little girl, despite my best efforts, my blood pressure took off, and I ended up being indusced at 36 weeks. If I make it through 2mro though...I will have got further with baby 2. This pregnancy has been far easier to be honest.

The good news is, that the good habits that I was scared into during my last pregnancy have stayed with me...so for me, despite my bp issues last time round, pregnancy was good for me! Of course, the most important thing is that my little girl...despite being a bit early, has thrived...and is now a cheeky toddler.

Good luck, and if I can help in any way...send me a pm.
Take care

Hi Natasha,
I'm trying to prepare my body for pregnancy a the moment. It's really difficult to stop going really low. I'm only feeling hypos now at 2.9 which I can't imagine is good. Did the hospital give you the go ahead to try and get pregnant?

I've no personal experience of this, but have heard that an insulin pump is good for controlling BG in pregnancy. May be worth discussing with your DN.
Good luck
Sue

hi,
i have been trying for the last year and a half to get my BS's down low enough so i can get pregnant. its been a right pain in the neck and i'm seriously considering giving up all hope.

i was at the Diabetic Clinic and my hBA1c is down to 8.0...but still too high

has anyone here had any problems getting pregnant with their hBA1c;s that high?

Hi,
I am not sure, but a think the HbA1C being 7 or below is a goal, to give your babythe best chance. I don't think that having a HbA1C of 8 will stop you getting pregnant. I am just back onlube after my little ne was born...he is 6 weeks old today. Everyone is different. With my 1st pregnancy, my level was slightly higher than 7 before I became pregnant...and I did have a difficult regnancy, but my daughter, now 2 is fine, after a difficult start.

2nd time round, I really tried with the blood sugars, and was between 5.8 and 6.5 both before and during pregnancy. There is nothing like my bllod sugar affecting someone else, so precious, really does ramp up the effort.

It is your call of course. Be aware though that you have to really monitor your blood sugar once you are pregnant..and the 1st 12 weeks are especially important. All those hormones mess your control up sometimes, so you need to be in the best position possible.
Best of luck!

thanks a million for the reply! some sound advice

although, what i meant was my DDC won't let me get pregnant with my HBA1C at 8.0. i have even considered whether i'm physically able to get pregnant or not

hah! knowing my luck, i'll get the blasted HBA1C's down to middle sixes (fingers crossed) and i won't be able to get pregnant..... :(

be positive woman!!!
