So I found out I'm pregnant two weeks ago and to say I'm terrified is an understatement! My control has been poor but I'm on top of it now but man do I feel bad. I lost a baby almost 2 years ago and I can't help worrying that it's going to happen again... Also the restless legs and lack of sleep are killing me, any experienced ladies have any tips? Any advice is appreciated!

Afraid I've got no advice, but want to say Congratulations! My wife and I had to wait for a long time for ours to arrive but when they do it's magical.

Hope you get some more useful replies soon.

Look after yourself :)

Hey caity .

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss .
So do you know what your current hba1c is ?

I'm not pregnant as of yet , will be trying soon . So can only offer a little bit of advice to what I have learnt from my pre conception appointment .

Have you :
Contacted your gp
And Taking a high dose of 5 mg folic acid ? If not this is what you will need to do first , go and get an appointment with your doctor , they will prescribe you with 5mg folic acid and also refer you to the hospital , where you will be monitored and advised closely .
Also with the control of bms they advice you have a reading of :
pre meal should be between 3.5 - 5.9 and 1 hour post meals under 7.8 .

Hope this helps a tiny bit
Take care and good luck.

I don't have any advice for you, but I do want to say "Congratulations on your wonderful news!"

You can't help feeling worried because of having lost a baby, but get your friends and family around you for moral support and practical help while you get through the first few months and coming to terms with it all.

I had two children, my daughter before I was diagnosed and my son 10 months after diagnosis, just under 30 years ago, such a long time .... :)
But I'm sure someone with more up to date experience will come along soon with advice on how to cope with the joys of pregnancy!

You've done well to get your diabetes under control, and that will surely help. Best wishes!

Hey Caity,

I don't have any advice except get in touch with your DSN if you haven't already, they are there to support you every step of the way and get you through this, so you have a healthy baby. It's their role to look after you and your baby so they will be your best resource at this time. I had gestational diabetes before being diagnosed type 1 so had gone around 22 weeks before they diagnosed gestational and ended up with a big healthy girl, but my DSN was my support network as I was injecting and trying to keep within the range, which was challenging.

You can do this so don't feel terrified, this isn't good for you or your baby, try and relax as much as you can and take every piece of advice on board. I would love to give you a big hug so it's a virtual one instead and just keep calm as this will help you manage your levels much better, in fact try to get into some form of relaxation such as walks, meditation, long soaks in the bath with candles (anything that helps you) if you can.

Good luck ;)
