President Donald John Trump

His odds of surviving his first term without being impeached, have apparently dropped to 50/50. He has grown up since adolescence without being accountable for his words and deeds. He may find now that being the Big Boss comes with more responsibility than he thought.

It's to be hoped that no-one lets him near the 'football' as it's called as he's just likely to want to know what those pretty little switches do and let us all find out the hard way.

Especially as he apparently has no qualms about conducting a nuclear war in Europe!

As a Yankee, I'll offer my perspective on the election results. First of all, I did not vote. I could not bring myself to pull the lever for either of the candidates. In my opinion, one was a crooked, lying, career politician and the other was a certifiable, arrogant, blowhard with the all of the finesse of a hemorrhoid.

In the end, what won it for Trump, was the left's unending mocking of middle America... who were fed up with being called racist, and stupid, and abhorrant, and deplorable. So they got up and voted in those areas that mattered most. Sure, Clinton got more votes. But our system is not set up that way. If Hillary had even a shred of decency in her body, she would have buried Trump in every way.

It's truly sad for the USA that we have sunk so low. I hope we offer up better choices next time. For now, I'm supporting Trump. I hope he doesn't let us down.

I wish I shared your optimism :(

I think we have already seen how he is going to behave as President and frankly, it terrifies me. It also saddens me, because I have American friends and ex-colleagues whom I respect and admire and you guys are better than this.

I wish you good luck.

The reason he was voted in was because he is a business man and not a politician (as such) The idea that the people would rather have a country based on how business is run is new and typically appealing to most Americans.
From Italy, we've had since 1994 a businessman that by the way has big interests in real estate like Trump, even if it's more known for the television business. It didn't worked very well at the end because running a nation is quite different than running a business, especially a real estate business. Moreover business with are "local" like real estate or televisions are prone to have conflict of interests so, for instance, they could buid more apartment blocks in nice locations

I wouldn't say that I'm particularly optimistic. But neither am I terrified. A POTUS has limited power.

Until he takes what power he wants...El Presidente springs to mind!

Presumably this was Berlusconi? He was/is a populist with a total contempt for women and an inability to tell the truth. Trump, meanwhile......

The similarities are endless.
