Ok. I’ve been to the endocrinologist- she’s a thyroid specialist. I have thyroid problems incl Hashimoto’s. Not interested in examining blood glucose issues except on a superficial basis. I am sure from taking my BG by fingerpick there are weird things happening. Does anyone know if I can obtain basic tests for insulin resistance etc in Australia plse? I’d like to test for LADA too but that’s not happening either.

Hi @RobynV - fellow Australian here :)

I'm not sure where you are situated- I'm a bit outside Canberra. I'm part of a low carb group which has doctors and other medical professionals which are very interested in low carb diets not just for diabetes but for other things. One of those doctors may be able to recommend someone in your area that's interested in blood glucose issues generally. They may be much more willing to organise the appropriate tests.

Is that something that would interest you?

Hi VashtiB
So good to make your acquaintance. Yes plse. I’m in Sydney. Lower nth shore but I’ll go anywhere in Sydney. I’m at a dead end with my GP. I’ll def change. Been prepping NDIS app for a long time. Endo she sent me to is a ‘colleague’ and very very inexperienced. Only willing to test basics (to do with thyroid). Never mind all the symptoms - which are crippling at times; not her area, she said. Meanwhile i have psoriatic arthritis, I’m treated in the public system - they don’t do any antibody tests for anything. Budget constraints. Despite comorbidities being common (esp BG issues). Immune system attacks elsewhere (other than joints). It ls random and individual. But pancreas and liver are popular. My daughters support me financially atm as I’m in a terrible family law thing and have no access to my own super. I can’t either get a diagnosis of Sjogrens (public hospital.. won’t do those tests). I am at my wits end and feeling terribly down. Ironic that public rheumatology dept (Royal North Shore) is supportive of my NDIS application - but won’t actually order tests to confirm spread to other autoimmune diseases - which NDIS counts as impt. I have to find a private Rheumo I suppose. All taking too long as I’m 65 in Feb.
