I was put onto Statins due to the usual 'diabetics should be on Statins' mantra by my original DN because my cholesterol level was 5. However they made me feel ill and my BG went from 5.8 to 7.2 which meant I was also put onto Sitagliptin. I eventually came off the Statins and my hba1c dropped to 40 where it stayed at that level for about 6 months. I came off the Sitagliptin in August and have just had my latest results - hba1c 42, cholesterol 4.3 (ldl 2) and weight loss of 8 KGS. Although my levels have gone up by 2 they are still good enough to keep me off medication. I also tried the impossible and asked about being prescribed strips - in that task I was unsuccessful!! However my DN was interested in how different foods affected my levels and, just to prove that not all DNs give inaccurate advice, told me that no-one really needs to eat bread and not to eat too much fruit, especially bananas, and potatos, rice and pasta. She also said that some people do re-act to Statins. Am I lucky in seventually finding an 'enlightened' DN??
