Hi I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes since about 2009
At first I was on tablets but my sugars would never come down I was then put on novo mix that didn't do anything I'm now on
Novo rapid 3 x a day
Lantus 2x a day
And victoza 1ce a day
But I'm really stuggling to remember to take them all I care for my disabled mum.. And it's just too much to remember im wondering if anyone has any tips on how to rember and also if a pump may be an option or if I'd even get one my hba1c from this weeks blood test had rocketed to 109....
I'm really worried I have a condition on my leg already due to diabites and have to have steroid patches on it I'm 24 and I really am struggling right now...
Please help
Thank you

hey sally, first, set the alarms in your smart phone for your injections and meds..your timer for post meal testing
it sounds like you have a full plate for a 24 yr old, you might have a bit of diabetic burn-out too http://www.diabetesexplained.com/diabetic-burnout.html

most would suggest you get your basel right first with 'miss a meal basal testing' and then work on your bolus,
basal test

have you had the blood tests to see if it's T1 or T2? because a reduced carb diet is 80% of treatment with T2, I think.
it’s a long page and a few good video’s

For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy

I guess you don't use the term 'smart phone' in the UK :) g3/g4 iphone, android etc with multi alarm/s
I set my timer for 2 hrs or I forget to BG check when I was meal testing
and the alarm/s for the times I want to take meds and they are permanent 'every day' in the settings and go off every day

Yes we do have smart phones. We also have electricity and indoor toilets. ;) But not everyone wants one! (a smart phone that is!)

.but I understand there is one bath for the whole street now, much better than when it was one for the whole village :bag:

I know you have g4 iphones etc, it was whether you use the term..'smart phone' or not I was asking .;)

Keep your pens in a place where you will see them as this always prompts you to take your insulin on time, also you can set alarms on your phone and even on your bg meter.

If you do forget and your unsure if you've taken your insulin or not you can buy devices that fit on the end of the pens which says how much time has lapsed since you last injected, one is called Timesulin, also for your Novorapid you can ask your DN/DSN for a NovoPen Echo which has a built in memory function which comes in handy when you have those doubting moments.

As a Type 1 I know how easily it is to forget your insulin :)

I have before tried setting alarms my problem is I also don't really eat during the day I'm always so busy with everything I don't normally eat alot or if I do it's sandwich or a little something.. So then when I do take it I feel yuk... I also have bad side effects to the insulin where I'm going to the toilet all the time and also with the alarms in not home... So by the time I get home... I've forgotten

Hi Sally_x,
I know you have a lot on your plate, caring for your Mum, but I'm trying to get my head round the idea of someone who is only 24 and has insulin dependent T2. Given your difficulties with remembering and coping with the insulin and the complications, isn't it time to have a re-think? To start cutting down on the foods which are putting up your sugar levels in the first place, that is the sugars and carbohydrates. You say that you were on tablets at first, but your sugars would never come down. If the tablets you are talking about were Metformin, I'm sorry to say, but they do very little to bring down sugar levels.
You owe it to yourself and your Mum to try and re-gain your health and you can only do this, long term, through changing your diet. It will be tough, but many have gone from insulin dependence to drug free, it will be worth it.
(plain) Sally

You should discuss your symptoms and concerns with your diabetes care team, if your under the care of a gp surgery for your diabetes then ask to be referred over to your local hospital diabetes clinic, they are more use to dealing with insulin related issues.

Hi Sally, without making time for the nessesary things ...eating...drinking...taking your meds and checking your bs levels you will struggle to get better, if you don't help yourself ...who else will

I have an appointment at my hospital on the 16th of Dec but they are really bad I haven't had an appoinment with them for 8 months... Just don't seen to care..

Are you on about those new-fangled fancy cordless telemophones? I find the 20 foot lead on current phone too restrictive if I want to take it to the shops with me!

What is bad about the appointments and why don't they seem to care? When you attend the appointments take the time to ask questions if you don't understand anything, it's your diabetes and you have every right to the best level of care when treating it.

I was told I need appoinments every 3 months they haven't seen me in 8 months... The first hospital doctors I saw... Blamed my diabites on my parents Saying its their doing...
And they just don't seem to ask me how I am they see my results they see my diary book and that's it.. They just don't seem to be botherd I'm seeing a new doctor this time as my old one has left... So maybe he will be better

Presently type 2's can't get pumps.

However, personally, I doubt if you are a T2. You're diagnosis was very young for a type 2... We're you given a gad and c peptide test? Do you know what the results were?

If you were to be rediagnosed as a T1 you would stand a chance of getting a pump.

Well ask your new Dr why you haven't been seen 3 monthly, to say that your diabetes is the fault of your parents is too shocking for words, hopefully matters will improve with the new consultant, if you've any concerns do come back and ask.

This was when I was first diagnosed when he said it was my mum's fault for feeding me wrong as a child now my mum always blames herself. I was 18 and just been told and that's what I was told I asked the hospital and they said my name had just dropped down the list.. Its like we have diabetic nurses to ring if we ever have any issues... You can never get thru you leave a message no-one rings you back hopfully I'll get on better with this new doctor Altho I'm a little nervous about new people and exsplaining everything all the time but fingers crossed I'll get some help

Thank you
