Problems with using Fine Point 4mm needles

Does anyone else have problems with using the Fine Point 4mm needles? I used to have the BD Micro-Fine Plus needles 4mm but now my GP won't let me have them. Now I have a lot more pain and blood oozes out. Also they are difficult to get off the pen and awkward to put into the yellow box. Sometimes they look bent too. I only use them once.

Hi I use BD Micro - fine ultra 4mm. I haven't used the Fine point needles and as you are having so much difficulty, I would go back to your GP and explain how they are causing you problems.
Good luck @annis54

I'm having a similar problem...can't get on with fine point at all...I've always used BD micro fine 8mm. Doctor trying to convince me to use shorter needles so prescribed these...I've persevered but usually end up bleeding and bruised...just hope not too much trouble to get my old ones put back on. Not sure if it's just me but they feel really cheap and tacky in comparison

hi Natalie
from a long(43 year) time user of needles you must stick to your guns -- over time you know what works best for you -- don't be swayed by GP trickery or cost cutting !!

Report the needles using the Yellow Card Scheme:

https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Agree with RRB, go back to your Dr's and explain to them the problems you are experiencing, if you have any issues and are under a hospital diabetes team get them to write to your Dr and insist that your changed back to the BD Micro-Fine needles. Good luck.

I explained to my GP that the cheaper ones would only be used once... and I do actually multi use injection needles and it wasn't actually a saving using 6-8 needles a day compared to two (one on each pen) for a fortnight!! (Yes, I do know I shouldn't!!-always done thisexcept when on pump-I use them till I feel they are blunt).

Also ask them how they would feel about using rough edged needles in them for 60,000 times... The cheaper ones are rough edged compared to the BD needles.....even my DSN at hospital was insistent that I only had BD ones because of the qty of times we will have to inject in our life time!!

Everybody that has problems with the cheaper needles need to report them on the MHRA website - its the only way to stop NICE recommending theyare the preferred choice for us!!

I live in Spain and get all my needles for free so I'm not in any of your shoes, but I would never use a needle more than once. Sorry but just my opinion

Type 1's do not pay for needles in the UK ( but that was not always the case years ago) I only use my needle once, but if the Op's Fine Point needles are of lower grade/inferior and causing problems when injecting, then they must go back to their GP.
