Hi,

I'm just starting the seventh week of the 1-2-3 diabetes type-2 reversal diet (Professor Roy Taylor). It is going well so far, and I'm well on track to lose the required 15kg.

Step one is eight weeks of 800 calories made up of shakes and two hundred calories of non-starchy vegetables. Step 2 reintroduces solid food, and I'm supposed to eat a 400-500 calorie meal for dinner.

For people who know the diet, what is the overall daily calorie count for step 2?

Thanks

Hi @chrisdr2
Are you following the guidelines in this booklet?

I have’ heard it called the 1-2-3 diet plan before. From what I have read, and what you are saying it seems that with the reintroduction of solid food you reduce one meal replacement product, which has 200 calories, then replace that with a meal of 400 - 500 calories. So it looks as though that would mean 800-200 = 600. Then to that 600 you are adding between 400 to 500 cals giving a total of 1000-1100 calories, for that stage. Math never was my stronger subject, though.

Incidentally, I wonder if you have a follow on eating plan for the end of your Newcastle diet? This is when some folks have difficulty, because if they just return to previous way of eating, any benefit will be lost as weight will be regained, and any improvement in T2 diabetes blood glucose control can be lost.

Thanks, for the maths! - 1000-1100 makes sense.

1-2-3 comes from Professor Taylor's books. He refers to it as a three-step diet.

Step 1: 8 weeks 800 calories
Steps 2 & 3: adding back dinner/lunch/breakfast.

But yes, it is notoriously easy to pile back on weight after completing a diet. The post-diet recommendation is to eat 75% of what you'd normally eat and keep a close check on weight. There are also some strategies to deal with weight gain, such as reverting to step 1 for a period, if one gains over 2-3kg, or regularly replacing one meal with a shake.

It'll be a hard path to keep the weight off, but as it is for my health, I'll just knuckle under.

I would recommend low carb diet as follow on. It is not difficult, just have to consume much less, ( or even eliminate) carbohydrates like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, and sugar or starchy veg etc.

There are some really good threads about the low carb way of eating. You will also find info in my signature.
Best wishesfor a successful outcome for you.

Thanks for the advice - I'll definitely be looking for low carb. I have a Tefal electric multi/pressure cooker and like cooking healthy recipes that I can eat for a few days.
