Progress so far....

Since being diagnosed earlier this month, I've made lifestyle changes and I think am starting to make progress!

I am still testing foods, but have given up bread/pasta/rice/potatoes/etc and yes, given up the beer was well!!
I joined a "boot camp" for 6 weeks to get my fitness levels up and try and lose weight, but also to try and help with the glucose levels.

One thing that I am terrible at is recording information - I don't log a food diary, and I'm not desperately consistent at timings with my testing either (although I do try and do a pre-breakfast and a pre-evening dinner).

So, since joining here on 11th June, my readings are:

11/06 08:36 - 14.4
11/06 10:31 - 17.2
11/06 20:39 - 7.6
12/06 06:12 - 11.0
12/06 18:15 - 11.7
13/06 18:07 - 8.9
13/06 21:03 - 9.3
14/06 06:40 - 14.0
15/06 18:15 - 11.0
16/06 10:36 - 10.7
16/06 15:56 - 7.4
17/06 14:44 - 13.4
18/06 22:07 - 13.2
19/06 06:35 - 11.3
19/06 13:36 - 14.8
20/06 07:11 - 9.5
20/06 18:34 - 7.9
21/06 18:23 - 7.5
21/06 22:05 - 9.5
22/06 06:55 - 8.9
22/06 18:25 - 6.8
23/06 06:49 - 9.3
23/06 17:32 - 6.7
24/06 08:31 - 9.9
25/06 07:02 - 7.5
25/06 20:40 - 5.1
26/06 05:51 - 7.0
26/06 11:12 - 6.7

7 day average is 7.9
14 day average is 9.4
30 day average is 11.1

Obviously I am pleased (really pleased!) that the numbers are coming down, but because I am **** at logging, I don't know why exactly!!

So, I will keep up with the exercise regime (it is strangely addictive!!) but will also try much harder to log what I'm eating and when, so the numbers have some context!

best wishes all,
Darren

You're definitely heading in the right direction, but I'd write down what each meal was and the reading so that I could work out where I could make adjustments. Your meter manufacturer may have a record book that you could send for(sometimes free), I keep mine with my meter so that its always handy to note things down and so only take a few seconds.

Your levels are coming down nicely

Exercise is incredibly addictive once you get going.

Well done! That's brilliant so keep it up

I swam most mornings for a whole year before I could honestly say I enjoyed it. Now I get grumpy if I miss it.

Don't know if you're a 'mobile geek' like me, but I found an 'app' for my phone that lets me record everything that I eat - it even has the facility to scan the barcode of most 'bought' items and gives you the calories for what is considered a 'portion' together with the nutritional content (protein, carbs contained etc).

You can also add your own list of favourites making it really easy to 'repeat' commonly eaten items.

Works for me - have not gone over my daily 'calorie' allowance for nearly a month whilst using it!!
