Hi All,

Happy New Year to all members.

Did my quarterly HBA1C last week.
Dec 2020 : 11.7% (104mmol/l) (Metformin 2000mg)
Apr 2021 : 6.2% (44mmol/L) (Metformin 2000mg)
Aug 2021 : 5.7% (39 mmol/L) Reduced Metformin 2000mg to 1000mg after Aug results)
Dec 2021 : 6.0% (42mmol/l)

I was expecting anywhere b/w 6% to 6.4% due to following factors:
1. Last 3-4 months, due to various Indian festivals, consumption of sweets were higher compared to Apr-Aug timeframe.
2. Lack of consistent exercise.

I plan to pickup 1 and 2 going forward. I think I have good understanding on diet and how my body reacts.

Areas to watch out for
1. Triglycerides
Dec 2020 : 2.3mmol/L
Apr 2021 1.1
Aug 2021 1.0
Dec 2021 1.4

2. HDL
Dec 2020 : 1.0 mmol/L
Apr 2021 1.2
Aug 2021 1.1
Dec 2021 1.1

3. LDL
Dec 2020 : 2.8 mmol/L
Apr 2021 2.8
Aug 2021 2.9
Dec 2021 3.4

4. Cholestorl Ratio
Dec 2020 : 4.8 mmol/L
Apr 2021 3.8
Aug 2021 4.1
Dec 2021 4.6

5. Vitamin D
57.8
taking vitamin medication. Needs to increase to 75+

6. Vitamin B Deficiency
I have tingling in fingers and palm sometimes. Doctor said likely to be Vitamin B Deficiency. Doctor said vitamin B Deficiency is common among asian folks. Doctor recommended tablet for the same.

Doctor asked if I want to start medicines for cholestrol. I said wanted to try using lifestyle and diet change. Dr has given me 6 months.

1. Would like to have your opinion on above numbers.
2. Any ideas on how to reduce cholestrol.
3. Any thoughts on Vitamin D and B Deficiency

Thank you all for the support and information

Regards
Kumar

You are doing well. I trust that you will be able to get back to low carb again after the 'festive season'.
Exercise is important, but apart from the bare minimum it's less important than a good way of eating is.
The NHS advise exercise is (only) a brisk 30 min walk 5 times per week (or shorter amount of HIIT).
If you want to do more exercise than that, then it's a good idea to make it muscle building (in preference to cardio) because muscles absorb glucose from the blood stream.

I will not comment about the current figures you quite, just on those for April and August.
1. Trigs - a vast improvement. No worries hear if you get back to low carb.
2. HDL - I'm a little surprised that this hasn't increased on Low Carb. Are you a vegetarian? Do you eat enough fats?
3. LDL nor surprise and this wouldn't be a concern if only your HDL was responding the way that most does for most on Low Carb.
4. I'm not sure which ratio you are measuring here. The commonly quoted ones are Trigs divided by HDL or Total Cholesterol divided by HDL. Or the inverse of those. Anyhow, as I have said your HDL could do to be higher and if it was everything else (lipid wise) would be looking much better.
