Well , I’ve just tried a Grenade high protein, low sugar protein bar and apart from it being expensive, I really don’t love it.tbh, I ‘d rather do without, which is what I’ve been doing these past months. I think that my liking for sweet stuff seems to have lessened with abstinence!
 
Each to their own I love the Grenade Carb Killa bars. Despite eating low carb for eight years, my sweet tooth is still alive and kicking! These are my saviour, to be able to have a sweet treat that I enjoy, that doesn’t spike my blood sugars is fantastic.

Carb Killas are sweetened with polyols which are counted in the total carbs. Polyols aren’t generally absorbed so once subtracted from total carbs to get net carbs they are about 2 - 4g per bar.
Edit to add, not all protein bars are the same!

Are polyols the stuff the put in laxatives?
Also, I get a strange aftertaste with most sweeteners.
Interesting option, but I think I will avoid for the moment.

Yes, those were the sweeteners in the bars I bought today. Rather confusing re the carb content then. 20g did seem a lot.
 
I sometimes have the Pulsar bars from Holland & Barrett. They dont spike me and keep me full if I need a sweet hit and have no time for lunch. As I am a hairdresser, I dont always have the time to eat and they serve the purpose!
 
I am another fan of the grenade bars - I don't know what I would do without them actually, they keep me going so they do, a little treat and so many different kinds, I usually stock up on them when they are on offer right enough as they are a little expensive
 
Tried the bars again. Not too bad , I might try another of the flavours , though at that price it’ll be a ‘sometime treat,’ (to quote Cookie Monster!). One thing I did notice though, I’d a nasty headache. Coincidence? Maybe me reacting to obe of the ingredients?
 
I’ve tried these in the dim & distant past & I always got a headache after them, also made me feel very sluggish. There’s a lot of ingredients in these bars that for me I now avoid.
 
If I was looking for protein I would try eggs, tinned salmon, nuts, and such.
If I was looking for the taste of something sweet, I would combine a few berries with some greek yogurt, or cottage cheese to still get the protein hit.
I don’t generally have the taste for sweet stuff. I wouldn’t look for something ultra processed like protein bars, due to the amount of artificial sweeteners, and fillers.
 
Yes, I agree. I tried them out of curiousity, g having heard about them on various places online. Everyday , I tend to use things like nuts etc as snacks.
