hi all, and good evening....
Went to my first DN nurse appointment, and everything seemed to be ok. Blood pressure good ( 130/80)....had flu & pneumonia jabs. Had a good chat and felt not too bad....made other appointments for more blood tests in 8 wks time and to see the specialist Dr one week after that....then received a letter from my Dr the following Saturday, asking me to come & see him as concerns with recent urine test.....anyway, to cut a long story short....have protein in wee, and he thinks kidney's may be struggling....so hes put me on Rimipril tablets to protect the kidneys....I do have a history of kidney disease as I had reflux from birth until about 14 yrs old...and am a bit concerned as one of the blighters (kidney) is very scarred and small....feel like I'm slowly falling apart at the seems now...lol....I've got thyroid problems, and had a scan on that on Monday....maybe needing to be removed as have lots of cysts in it and getting larger all the time.....and to top it all, am pretty sure am heading for the menopause!!!!!!....lol....
Have managed to loose about 1/2 st in nearly three weeks, and seem to be keeping bg at a better level.....following a lowish carb diet, which includes quite a lot of protein....what I'd really like to know is if thats ok if kidneys are maybe struggling a bit?.....any thoughts/ advice would be lovely...thanks...Jayne

I would cut down on the protein as you are leaking protein and higher protein will cause more problems. Is the dr waiting 2 months to see how the rimipril are doing? If not can he not bring tests forward to get more info. Or was the tests and specialist booked before the protein was spotted. if so ask for earlier bloods and referral

Hi...am having a blood test in 2 weeks to see haw the Rimipril is doing because of my history....the other tests etc were booked at the visit to the nurse....they are for another HbA1c test, and then with the Dr/specialist to chat about the results...will try to cut protein down, as I thought that would be the case...thankyou...it's so helpful to have another opinion....have D/N on the 17th Feb, so will chat to her about diet as well....the other concern I had it that he hasn't checked to see if it's not a kidney infection?....as I always get Albumen in urine when I get one?....but have no symptoms of infection, so I suppose he know what he's doing...:-)
