Went for my 6 monthly check at the diabetic centre on Monday, hba1c up a bit as iv had a bad last 2 months with stress and bereavement (iv struggled for a long time with control) to 79. Previously 69. This may seem a bit higher than most aim for but 18 months ago it was 124 so a big drop over time.
Iv come home today (thurs) to a letter saying their was protein in my ursine sample and to take another sample back tomorrow to be re tested. I'm worried and unsure what this all could mean for me in the future. Anyone had this that can offer advice or insight?
Thanks!

Ps I'm 29 year old female with type one since I was 12...

I had this once about 20 years ago - got called back for a retest but it was all clear (phew). Try not to worry (difficult I know) until you have had the test done again. Hopefully it's just a blip for you too.

There are several factors that can cause protein in urine - not all are diabetes related or kidney failure starting. Contamination of sample by other body secretions, high protein diet, recent high intensity exercise are a few but can also be associated with high BG levels and glucose in urine. I had fairly significant protein in urine when first diagnosed, but this did quickly resolve once my BG levels were better controlled. I would wait to see result of second test before worrying to much. IF it is still elevated ask doctor to run eGFR (kidney function) test - this needs a blood test.
